Heck, I'll start a thread about him. He was the unexpected player who impressed me the most (Hawthorne next). It will work out for him that Q may not play until January and he'll see some serious PT. I watched a few clips of him in high school and I saw the same thing last nite: when he goes to the hoop he puts his head down, uses his big body, good footwork, a fake or two and slam dunks, he doesn't fade away or try a one handed 5 foot prayer (like Garrison and jelanavic) and he hit his free throws, and he made some nice passes. I'm not saying start him over Garrison, but he seems to have better low post footwork, and I'm excited to see the kid get some PT this year. He may be a real star next year.

I agree he will be a great player here. Getting that early PT will help him and us immensely later in the year.

I always think Moreno may be good enough to be OAD player, first round pick in one year

Why many of Kentucky fans think he is even not capable of being in top 10 in rotation?

Think top 4 frontcourt guys now are BG/JQ/Mo/Moreno, Jelavic is a little behind

I think he will be 2 year guy... And probably best big in national in year 2

Latest info says JQ is likely to return at the beginning of SEC play. Maybe some light duty in late December.
Not saying you’re wrong so please don’t take it this way…….but…… everyone including Pope I believe has said he is breaking records and recovery is way ahead of schedule etc. why are we even discussing SEC play timeline at this point? I get it every all injury is different but they sold him as being ready to go day 1.
Did Pope know that was a bs line and take him or is the recovery slower than expected?

Just going by what J Rowland posted this morning on the HOB board about what he is hearing about the situation. The staff is going to be very cautious about bringing him back too early, even though he is anxious to get back on the court. “Supposedly “ there is a huge difference in this type of injury recurring if coming back before 9months vs after 9 months.

Because that kid is a top 10 pick even if he never plays here. There is a very low chance he’s on the court before the 9 month healing for an ACL even if he progresses quickly. The staff and his family will not take a chance on it.

Pope has literally never said JQ would be ready to go on Day 1.

He's said encouraging things about his recovery, but he's emphasized that they're going to be extremely careful with him.

I was most impressed with MM. He's better than I thought and physically ready to push Garrison. Of course, having a 4/5 guy with experience in Pope's system is massive, but that might look different by late season. He seems to have a good basketball IQ for a freshman too. They didn't run many sets last night to see how that part of his game is coming along. Still, he seemed to know where to be in what they did do.

It seems like every year there’s a debate over the rotation (Reed vs Wagner, Harrison Twins vs Ulis and Booker) and I think this year until JQ is turned loose it’ll be Garrison vs Moreno. I actually think Moreno will be better offensively playing like Amari did last year than Garrison. I think he has a better feel and skill level.

I agree and to add to in the offense it seemed the ball stopped a lot with Garrison last year. He needed a few extra seconds to think what to do. Moreno seems highly skilled and will challenge quickly.

That was always my thoughts. 9 months seemed like the perfect time period from the research I’ve done about the injury. Always seemed like December play would be his target to me and rightfully so.

January?! Yeah, that’s not happening. JQ will play well before January.

I’ll eat crow. I posted a few times that MM will not be any type of impact player year one. Too slow and raw offensively. I think he will be much better than I thought. He’s improved by huge amounts since I watched him play last season.
Agreed. He looked slow-ish, stiff as a board, and awkward in his highlights. He actually moved much more fluidly than I anticipated. He'll be one to watch this year, for sure.

The main problem for him is he looked slow, rigid.

His rebounding instinct, decision making and touch around basket are so natural

He just needs to adapt to faster pace of the game
