Just back from Beijing, where he covered the Olympics, Mariotti said in a phone interview that he decided to quit after it became clear while in China that sports journalism had become "entirely a Web site business. There were not many newspapers there." He added that most of the journalists covering the Games were "there writing for Web sites."

he has more time to lampoon with Woody Paige and Tim Calishaw on Around the Horn now. Noone would know who those guys were outside of their local paper area if it weren't for shows like PTI and ARound the Horn. They should be thanking their lucky stars that they aren't just some sports writers and are nationally known because of espn.com and the ESPN tv shows.
