His contract was extended about a year ago into 2025. Maybe the NCAA finally realized the extension was a big mistake since Emmert has absolutely no leadership abilities. One more year of Marky Mark and his funky bunch - if the NCAA survives that long.

Breaking News - Mark Emmert, based on many years of experience with the NCAA, has accepted a position as the Head Clown with Barnum & Bailey. Please congratulate Mark on this wonderful opportunity for him as he takes our circus to unprecedented levels.

During his tenure, he truly was a covert circus clown hell bent on bringing down the NCAA.
Unfortunately, he succeeded.

given how the NCAA handled Penn State a decade ago, I would not expect anything but a pssing contest on Emmert. However on the larger scale it is worth understanding what is going on there. What motivated the NCAA Board to extend his contract very recently and then turn on a dime with instant action to remove him. What did the Board want from him which he has failed to do? My guess is they actually wanted him to get control of the current situation with CFB P5 and MBB. There is a question of their existence and what do they do. There is a possibility that they two big revenue sports take their top 30-40 teams and go independent and approach a pro minor league where players do not even need to all be students. Is there a role for an NCAA without the two big boys. If you take out the big $$rev sports, the remainder almost go to club level and are not financially sustainable under their current model (I have heard this idea already floating on sports radio). I think the NCAA Board feels that they need someone who can actually get control of the situation and in some cases "put the toothpaste back in the container" - not everyone accepts that the very narrow court decisions have eliminated the right of the NCAA through the Board authority (which comes from the schools) to control how the schools need to react and enforce rules. For example, just because a player signs an NIL deal for $8M does not mean that the NCAA cannot rule the player academically ineligible. I look for the Board to put in someone who is going to get some level of control.

Either Jim Delany or Vicky Triponey should satisfy the locals.
