they are talking about needing a "football commissioner" for CFB. then they talk about why this is needed and what it would do......like make rules to control the schools, teams and anti-competitive behavior. Then they suggest this is what NCAA does, but suggest the NCAA is tied to the schools and just exists for CBB tournament. The NCAA exists based on a contract with all the schools - so they are essentially a service provider under contract to colleges, and governed by them. I am not sure how you can setup a CFB "football commissioner" who then is operating and making rules outside the schools.......if the NCAA should be closed and start over, wouldn't you need the same type of structure where the schools govern the entity? presumably all the schools are paying into the NCAA fee for the services they provide, so you should have governance - and the schools can vote for their board to govern the NCAA, or any other similar entity. You could have two entities with the same structure - one for just football, but why?

The NCAA is a voluntary membership organization. The members get what they want. If they wanted what Mark Packer thinks they should have they'd have it. But like most people, they think Mark Packer is an idiot and ignore him.

I like the idea of a tzar of football and a tzar of basketball, but for scheduling and officiating. Compliance too, but it won’t have much more leverage than the NCAA unless the colleges give these tzars the power. Just remember that all pro sports commissioners work for the owners.
