Goes to an air raid offense as did DJ. backs who can catch passes is what will give them a shot at the nfl.

USC was 7-5 with a returning Heisman Winner at QB in a weak conference. The QB is gone and now USC is stepping up into the Big 10.

They’re a blue blood loaded with talent, if Riley hires a DC with a pulse they will be fine. BigTen plays good defense though.

What? DJ had 201 carries and only caught 19 passes this year. They don’t run anything close to the Air Raid. Tons of play action, and standard set is 11 personnel.

Deboer doesn’t run the air raid ?Gosh you better tell him, because he keeps giving interviews claiming he does.

Maybe read the athletic article , Washington was averaging 569 yards a game, 446 through the air. They talk about the air raid offense he and grubb ran at Fresno State. LOL

Glad to see our players going to other P5 teams. It demonstrates that we have talent. Godspeed to Woody. I hope he does well in the Big 10.

Interesting that Will Rogers is recruited to run an air raid offense at Washington and DJ and Marks are both signed with Air Raid offenses.

At first I thought Washington was crazy to sign will, but he fits their offense and scheme.

Jesus. Tell me when Mike Leach or Hal Mumme or any of their ilk ever had a 1,000 yard rusher. Tell me when they used TE’s or play action.

None of what you’re saying even makes sense. DJ wasn’t even a Leach recruit who was attracted to the Air Raid. He signed on with Moorhead on 12/18/2019, and simply stuck it out for 3 years. He left precisely because he wanted to be in a more traditional running attack, and left while Leach was still with us. He had no interest at all in going to another similar offense.

Washington runs the Air Raid, that isn’t even up for debate. leach used a tight end at Texas Tech. Doesn’t matter who DJ or Will signed with out of high schools they were trained in the air raid and that’s why they were recruited to play for Washington, because they fit their scheme.

Dude, they don’t. Everybody has some form of the Air Raid concepts in their playbook now, some more than others. But just because you have 3 or 4 plays with mesh routes doesn’t make it a full blown Air Raid system.

This link dives into it a good bit.

Hell, the first play they break down only has 3 guys out in a pattern, with a TE and RB staying in to protect. Another has a naked bootleg rollout. Another is one of their many play action sets. Deboer / Grubb even use a lot of the motion and jet sweep type plays that Malzahn and others have been known for. They are very multiple in both personnel / formations and playcalling, and don’t pull everything from any one system. They even go under center about 10% of the time, and use a good bit of pistol as well.

As for Rogers, he had a passer rating of 131 in whatever the hell Barbay was running this year, which was just a tick under what he had in the Air Raid in 2022. He’s an extremely capable QB in any system that doesn’t rely on a running QB, and Washington is certainly that.

Penix ran air raid at Indiana, was recruited to Washington, Will Rogers can only run air raid , now he’s recruited to Washington to replace Penix. .....

the Athletic interview with Deboer describes his air raid offense. Is Deboer Lying, is he recruiting qbs that run air raid to his offense because he doesn’t run air raid ? Lmao

Sounds like you have a reality problem

Did you even read a word of the previous post?

Will Rogers can only run Air Raid? Says who? Again, we averaged 28-30ppg in his starts and he had a very respectable 131 passer rating even in the godawful system that Barbay put out there this year. He was only at 139 in 2022 when we went 9-4. Will can pick apart a defense in any system with a good OL that doesn’t ask him to run. And I’m 100% certain that the majority of the UW passing plays use Air Raid concepts and terminology (which again, EVERY passing offense uses these days). But that doesn’t make it just “the Air Raid”. You’re way over simplifying it.

And back to Johnson. Why the hell do you think he transferred to Washington? He just wanted to move 3,000 miles away to play in the exact same offense he was running away from at MSU because it didn’t showcase his ability? Apply just a little bit of critical thinking here. Its a vastly more innovative and multiple system than the pure Air Raid.

So DeBoer says in the article, “I just run the Air Raid….same shít Leach and Holgerson and them other guys have been doing for 30 years….can’t believe nobody’s caught on yet!” I’m sure. Maybe copy and paste the full context instead of referencing a damn paywall article.

“Air Raid” gets thrown around like its some kind of magic sauce or gateway to enlightenment by every OC and offensive HC in the country….like they’re doing something special that very few others are. Its nonsense. The reality you seem to have a problem with is that everyone runs SOME Air Raid stuff, but that doesn’t make the entire offense Air Raid.

And oh yeah, this is also nonsense. 2020-2021 Indiana was literally a 50-50 run/pass mix….with 4 different QB’s seeing playing time and none of them completing more than 55% of their passes (including Penix). 2019….they ran it about 50% of the time as well under an OC named….Kalen DeBoer. That connection is the real reason he was recruited to UW.

Penix for his IU career averaged like 200 ypg passing on 53% completions. That’d be the worst Air Raid QB and offense of all time, in both plan and execution.

But hey, you apparently will call any offense that’s ever thrown a forward pass in the past 30 years the Air Raid….so knock yourself out.
