These massive NIL deals are always "reported" and "allegedly" and "believed to be".

In this case, it was initially rumored in a Tweet by Christian Williams and everyone is referencing that unsubstantiated Tweet.

If true, he should stay. Without guaranteed contacts in the NFL, it's a no-brainer.
since about 2011 all first round draft picks get guaranteed contracts. Most of the money is made off of the signing bonus anyway.
It Also puts him a year closer to his second contract. Age is everything in the NFL. Except for a small few.

Not a chance. He's really good, but not that good. You could go get the top three receivers in the country for that amount.

This is where I start to doubt the stories a little.

That number just seems way too high.

Absurdly high.

People aren't even thinking when they read a story like this. A top 5 NFL pick gets a total salary of $35-40 million for a 4-5 year deal. There is ZERO chance a college player gets $25 million for one year. It just isn't even believable that a top 5 NFL pick gets $8 million/year while a college player gets $25 million.

It's stupid "stories" like this reported on Twitter that fuel a lot of this NIL madness.

The highest paid WR in the NFL gets $30 million/yr.

$25 million would make Harrison tied for the 4th highest paid WR in the NFL.

It's just such an absurd number on the face of it.

It seems fans WANT to believe these kinds of NIL deals are happening. They just are not. I think if there was total transparency with NIL deals, a lot of the hype would settle down.

what exactly makes you think this isn’t happening. If he decides to come back I think that is pretty telling in the fact that it actually did happen. He would stand to make 10-20 million in signing bonus and another 15-20 million in salary as a consensus top 5 pick for his rookie contract. The fact that he is so undecided tells me that there is validity to this. Not to mention wear and tear in college is no where near wear and tear in the NFL.

I have no idea what he's thinking. It's less common than it used to be, but it's hardly unprecedented for players to return to college for their final season. He supposedly really wants another crack at beating Michigan. People make much too much out of players going pro early.

That aside, I simply cannot see any scenario where a college player is paid top 5 NFL position money.

I don't know about all. There are only 112 guys out of around 2,000 that have guaranteed contracts, per Bet MGM.

For the 22 draft. You said since 2011 they've been getting fully guaranteed. That's what threw me off.

I will admit I looked at 4 articles. 2011 ,16, 21 and 22 all were so I assumed it was standard. Can’t find anything to the contrary but that’s not to say it doesn’t exist. I’m strictly talking first round

The article you linked said it was the first time since the 2011 CBA that all first rounders were guaranteed. Who knows? But it has not been the standard historically. There's so much money flowing through the NFL right now it's not a big deal.

Yeah... unless you are a difference-maker on game days, it seems a big chunk of that will be getting paid to breath while in uniform.

I can believe that Harrison or somebody around him truly believes he stands to earn $25m playing college football next year, but that doesn't make it reality. The figure is so high that it is ludicrous on its face. Just imagine the dynamics of the WR corps or the locker room in general, if that figure were true.

My fear is that players all over the country are falling for pie-in-the-sky over-inflated promises that will never materialize.

I would bet it is a multi-year structured contract (5 years?) through a national company (Ohio has plenty of them) that is conditioned on playing at TOSU for another year (worth a portion of that contract) and the remainder guaranteed when he is in the NFL.
