What are your thoughts for this game re going 1-0?

I think we have a lot strengths in the matchups. The two areas that feel the least certain are the OL condition and how we have defensed running QBs. Md QB is a all about running and passing on the run., and we have not defensed that type of QB so far.

I'm not saying this to be an Internet-Jerk™. I actually had to look up the word "defensed" to see if it was real and indeed it is! 😲

This game concerns me. Just when PSU seems to be on a roll and getting some national attention as a team to keep your eye on in the future the potential to lay an egg is bigger. On paper PSU should win and win handily. I hope they come to play Saturday.

Unless the MD QB improves a lot during the week he did not look good against Wiscy. He seemed tentative and didn't look comfortable planting his leg.
MD's DL isn't much if any better than Indy's but I would expect Locks to blitz like crazy. Clifford will have to hit some passes to back them off. I think we score on a couple of screens to either the RB's or maybe Parker W.

Agree, and PSU's continued struggles with defending the middle of the field. UMD has an outstanding group of WRs who can get lots of YAC. Diaz needs to dial back the blitzes that are leaving the middle of the field open and play to contain the UMD QB in th pocket.

Makes sense. I'm not sure how good the MD OL is, they didn't look good against Wiscy.
I think both Demus and Jarret maybe dinged and not 100%.

He is definitely not the run threat he was last year and earlier in the season when they put up their victories. He is literally their entir offense.

Remember that we make opposing QBs look like Heisman winners. The maryland QB is licking his chops.

Looks like we are expecting 2-4 inches of rain Friday into early Saturday morning here in State College. Those of you that park in the grass lots should be aware. Would not be surprised if there are some closures if we get that much rain in a 12 hour period.

Looking at all the Big Ten stats I see Maryland very close to PSU. I am concerned with this game because I sense that Maryland looks at it as more of a rivalry game than our players do. I do know that there is something between Locksley and Franklin that has turned an old working relationship sour.
I do not see an easy game. Oh, how I hope I' wrong.
8-4 was may preseason hope. I'm pretty confident of 9-3 and think that's good for this group. PSU will need to secure a win on Saturday before I can talk 10-2.
I was really praying for the Orange Bowl (since that's one I've never attended), but I guess the odds are not looking favorable.

If the defensive line plays anything like it did last Saturday and the good Clifford shows up, I like our chances. If last week was a fluke and we get bad Clifford, who knows?

It's hard to separate the PSU performance from the Hoosier collapse. The credit goes to PSU for doing exactly what good teams do to bad teams. While a few here think that should be 100% automatic, college football teams are composed of humans and not computer components.....as such outcomes are never guaranteed.
PSU has a recent history of erratic game results. Which team shows up?
I'm going to hope that with so many younger guys motivated to make their mark, they will continue with good play. I think one of the problems the last 2 years was too many (so called leaders) had their eyes on the NFL (most didn't materialize) and after a few losses their motivation was me first.

"WE'RE SCREWED"
I look at the bright side of a loss.....it gives me a week more to laugh at an ever increasing # of fire Franklin bleaters! :sneaky:

MD will be fired up for this game. A lot of their players probably wanted to go to PSU. I just hope that we have a spy on the QB because he will run much better than the IU QBs. That and Clifford INTs are the only way MD is in this game.

Tagovailoa was having a very good season completing more than 70% of his passes with few interceptions before getting injured in the Indiana game where he was carted off the field with a lower leg injury. He did not play vs. NW and the Terps had a bye the following week.

He returned to action last week at Wisconsin and performed poorly in miserable weather conditions. The MD radio analyst pointed out that he was clearly favoring his injured leg and seemed hesitant in his decision making.

As others have pointed out, scrambling and throwing on the run is his strength. He's only rushed for 2 yards per carry with a season long run of 13 yards. I suspect he will play better than he did at Wisconsin but we should be ready for him.

In their last two wins MD defense gave up 33 points to Indiana and 24 to NW. We should be able to score points if field conditions are good.

Always a concern eg. Northwestern game, and several in the past that still haunt me.

PSU left a shytload of points on the field vs IU, especially in the first half.

Can’t afford to do that against Md or MSU.

It's competition. No one is perfect. I prefer winning. If PSU doesn't win I'll still be a fan. In addition, I won't spend time laying blame.

Not sure if the MD is fully healthy yet. We’ll see

PSU wins....it will be a bit close in the beginning, because Diaz will play that soft defense underneath, and the D-Line will not peel off blockers to spy Taulia. So, he will get some big runs, keeping Maryland in the hunt.

Then, the offense will take over, as Maryland D does not have the horses to keep up with PSU.

Final - PSU 35, Maryland 21.
