with the tv contracts expiring 08-09, they would probably have to rush to get the channel launched. they're making money hand over fist with their current tv deals, so why not renew them for a few more years and see how the big 10 sorts out its distribution problems? don't get me wrong, i would love an sec network, but i think they'll (wisely) evaluate the big 10 network in another year or two. plus, you've got the comcast v. nfl network/directv bickering going on, and distribution will obviously be the key to success, so maybe waiting is a good idea.
i don't know how long the current tv deals typically run. if they're 10 year deals, then a network could come sooner rather than later.</p>
