If Polk is so knowledgable about hiring coaches why didn't the Pat Mcmahon experiment work. That was the upstart to our downfall as a baseball program.

Also, he choose himself to replace McMahon, and well....

Now, Perno has worked out at UGA, but that certainly could be a blind squirrel finds nut scenario. I don't know how good Perno was as an assistant either. It is likely that he was as good or better than Raffo, though.

The only Polk assistant that I know of who has won a NC of any kind is Brian Shoop.

Polk talks about how Byrne doesn't know anything about baseball, and yet one of Greg's main contacts is a guy who has won two NC's at the D-I level, at Oregon State no less. I'm sure that Oregon has a lottery, so their NC's don't really count.

As far as our downfall, it all started with Polk coming back. We had a great shot at hiring Manieri when McMahon left, and LT pussed out. McMahon didn't leave our program in bad shape at all- a young team coming off of a SEC Tournament Championship and a SR appearance. That's a far cry from where we are now.

for listening to KB21. He had said at one time that Perno was Polk's choice. Lesson learned.

the most successful 4 consecutive year of baseball in MSU history (1 CWS, 2 super regionals, and 1 regional final - I challenge anyone to find 4 consecutive years in MSU history that were all better) and a class of returning players when he left that had more MSU players drafted in 2002 than in any year in MSU history. We'd have been a hell of a lot better off if McMahon had turned Florida down in 2001.

McMahon was an outstanding coach. It's now obvious he still had to serve the master "ron" even though he was the head coach.
