Hendrix, Steele, Pickett, and Tubbs. With one more starter, that team would win the west next year.

TUSCALOOSA -- Sophomore reserve guard Justin Tubbs is the latest Alabama basketball player perusing a transfer from the program, joining freshman guard Rico Pickett, who has said he intends to transfer after one season.

Alabama coach Mark Gottfried would not confirm the official departure of either player this afternoon, saying "If somebody feels the need to look somewhere else, then I'm going to support them and help them because I want them to be successful."

In other Crimson Tide news, as expected, guard Ronald Steele also announced intentions today to declare for the 2008 NBA draft with the option of retuning to school. Steele said if he is not invited to the NBA's pre-draft camp in Orlando, he would be back at Alabama for his final season.

Gottfried was expected to meet with Pickett, who was suspended on Sunday night due to his attendance at academic and other off-the-court appointments, before the transfer was finalized.

Yet Pickett was clear in his assessment, telling his hometown paper the Decatur Daily on Monday that "Nothing possibly that Coach Gottfried can talk about that can make me come back. I will not play for Alabama again."

Pickett added, "It's not the school, it's not the team. That's fine. It's me and the coaching staff. The whole year I was kind of unhappy with them, and when I say I'm unhappy, that's what I mean by that. It's the coaching staff, it's not the players or the school."

Tubbs' situation has been a while in the making. His departure would be due to a lack of playing time. He was not immediately available for comment today.

"I don't really have anything else to say about it right now," Gottfried said. "Maybe later in the week I will."
