Merch Rant

Been trying to find a jersey for my 10 year old son. Wanted to put “his “number and name on it. We don’t even offer jerseys in kids sizes. Then you can’t put “your” name on one unless it’s some wal mart cheap looking crap.

had bought a baseball jersey last summer and took it to the place next to the lodge to haven them put his name and number on it. Was told they couldn’t because of NIL. So these kids own the numbers too?? And my sons name? We absolutely suck at every facet of the merchandise game. Fire away guys.

of course any suggestions on fulfilling my sons wish would be appreciated.

It’s impossible to get kids jerseys done right. Your best bet is finding private Facebook groups that make custom bootleg jerseys. Most of them can make a bootleg that looks legit. It might be hard to get the interlocking logo stuff.
Second best option is getting old youth jerseys on eBay.

If you have a jersey, you can probably get this done outside of Starkville. There are embroidery shops that could do it fairly easy. No clue what it costs. But shouldn’t be ridiculous.

Yeah there are plenty of guys around that make t shirts and hoodies with any design you want. All it takes is a couple hundred dollar machine to cook it on. Google it

Hard to believe that they have rights to the number. They are the latest of hundreds to wear it.
The problem is the sportswear places have licensing agreements with the University. They cannot afford to do anything that might jeopardize their license.

During the Ed Bannon litigation, the NCAA decided selling jerseys with players numbers on them was using that player's popularity to sell merch. That's when school's stopped selling player numbers, and you can only find 1, the year number, or the school founding year.

Now with NIL, the school would need to kick some of that money back to the player, so they currently tell licensees not do it.

Seems like they could resolve this the way EA Sports does and just give a blanket fee to every player. Something may be in the works.

That's why the bootleg market is big. IMO for kids jerseys its the only way to go. Especially for MLB stuff. The City Connect youth Acuna Jr jersey is $300 at the stadium. There are bootleggers all over facebook that will do it for $55 shipped. Which still isn't cheap.
