Widow Watson's was located inside the McRae's Department Store. I worked in the cash office at a few of the McRae's stores during Christmas and summer breaks. I think that they turned in their cash receipts to our office, so don't think it was a chain. Maybe @Darryl Steight could say for sure.
I don't think it was a national chain or anything, but can't really say for sure. I was just at Metrocenter a lot in my youth and for whatever reason have always remembered that old woman on the logo.

As a matter of fact, I realized I had seen that logo on a shirt on that retro t-shirt site within the past few years, so I went and looked. Here it is:

Wow, that brings back memories. I had an uncle that worked in metrocenter, so my cousin and I would spend ALL DAY in the mall walking around, mostly looking at dirty stuff in Spencer's, eating free samples from Chick-fil-A and completely dominating Joust and Spy Hunter at Diamond Jim's.

His snookering of the PRV folks closed at least one very successful business (I can't remember if the other bar in the Dock's parking lot was still operating) that employed people, paid taxes and provided entrainment. Plus I'm sure that guy got some type of tax breaks or other inducements. Not only that, but it tied up a very desirable area that could have spawned other businesses that would have thrived. There are wet slips there now.
If it was for sale, then why didn’t those other people buy it?

All PRV property is a lease, even the lots with homes on them. Ol' baw kept making the lease payments and kept the property. The PRV is not an easy organization to deal with, that's why you see so few developments.

I guess my point is they would have been a pain for anyone. At least the guy is paying the lease.

The Widow was a single restaurant.

I actually found a copy of an old menu. Was named after a legendary innkeeper on the Natchez Trace so it was obviously local. I did see something that indicated there may have also been one in Gautier.

Be nice to still get a blue cheese burger and fries for about $4.

I think the salad bar was something I remembered from Ruby Tuesday's. Didn't seem to have one.

You can always depend on Kingfish and Jackson Jambalaya to give you some obscure Jackson info.

Here's a matchbook and summary. So Widow Watson's was indeed owned by McRae's and apparently had locations at two malls in the Jackson area and also Gautier.

Great find. I recall a lot of the upscale major department stores in big cities had dining/tea rooms back in the day and assume this an attempt to replicate them. That was certainly an upscale McRae's as was Metrocenter as a whole when it opened. Great little place to eat.
