I can tell you that a few years ago, I read a knee MRI from one of the outpatient imaging centers we covered done on an NFL player that was let go by the Rams. He was let go “with a clean bill of health“ and therefore no injury settlement. He continued to complain of knee pain that he had with the Rams and supposedly had received treatment by the team before his release. The MRI show fairly significant pathology, but nothing as serious as a complete ACL tear. He had an MRI with the Rams and told there was not anything wrong with the knee. So either the person who read his knee MRI done by the Rams organization was incompetent/not qualified to do so or they lied to him, although I suspect the latter because they wanted to save money by not giving an injury settlement.
We asked to get the previous exam for comparison because maybe something happened to the knee after the player’s release, but of course we never received the previous study. That’s why why the NFL teams have their “own people“ to evaluate players. It is a business, not healthcare.
