Link incoming so Goat doesn't think I am FOS.

Apologies for linking Mississippi Today: https://mississippitoday.org/2024/02/01/mississippi-house-approves-mobile-sports-betting-law/

Under the proposal, bettors would not have to physically visit a casino to register for sports betting. The entire registration process could happen remotely, as long as it was done in Mississippi.

The House proposal would require online sportsbooks like DraftKings or FanDuel, called a “skin” or “platform,” to partner with a physical casino in Mississippi before allowing customers to participate in mobile betting.

Hmmmm....I see that the casino cabal has teamed with the WalMart/Kroger lobbying team.

This is awesome! Been waiting for this, the state was leaving a ton of money on the table.

Now we have another potential source of income for the state that has the lowest LFPR in the country.
This is definitely a game changer.

And, now, we wait to see what Delbert wants. And then to conference. Long way to go.

How can we help residents of the poorest state get poorer? Anyone got any ideas?
Am I reading this correctly that you won't be able to bet if you are out of state? That seems kinda dumb. Seems like you'd want people to bet from anywhere.

Gambling is a state by state issue. You can go to Tennessee and bet mobile currently. Many other states as well.

No. You have to physically be in TN. And the apps know. I can go to a Grizzlies game and bet via Caesers app for instance.
Gotcha. Yeah that's what I wish we could change. So out-of-staters basically still have to drive to Biloxi or wherever to place a bet on a game.

Oh well, it's not the worst idea in the world to have it for the MS residents. I don't personally gamble much anymore but I'm all for the freedom to be able to.

No they just have to geolocate inside Mississippi. I know people who want to place a bet and drive to just across the Tennessee state line and place the bet and then turn around and drive back.

It just has to do with who the state is partnered with to place the bets. They have contracts.

This is great news for those of us who come to visit during the holidays and enjoy playing the occasional wager.

It will increase sports betting substantially. But, if they partnered with Draft Kings and Fan Duel, it would increase it exponentially.

We've already got lottery tickets. I've never seen any data, but I bet that hits the poorest. I'm guessing this is going to be more evenly distributed across the income brackets. Probably hit young males disproportionately, at least compared to income.

Otherwise I assume it's going to be like every other form of gambling. Most people involved won't be materially better or worse off because of it. The problem gamblers are going to be what makes it profitable and also who experience the worst impacts (along with their families).
