We haven’t played in South Carolina since 2013. Planning my first trip with 3 other friends to South Carolina. Never even been in the state. Very excited to experience the atmosphere there in Columbia.

We fly in early Friday morning and only have lunch and dinner Friday and I’m assuming 1 other meal Saturday out in town before flying back home Sunday morning.

Do you guys have any must go to restaurants or breweries while we are in town? Looking for local spots that will make the experience even better. Or a general area we should walk around to get a few drinks and good food?

Did the state ever finish the highway going to Starkville? I remember going down the interstate several years ago and all of a sudden the highway ends and had to detour. I believe the highway stayed like that for a long time.

BBQ is always a sensitive topic that elicits strong feelings and recommendations, but the original Maurice's Piggy Park in Cayce is an iconic Columbia fixture. There may be better BBQ around (Maurice turned BBQ into fast food), but there's a reason why they have 9 or 10 locations around Columbia. And it's probably going to be really different from any of the Mississippi BBQs.

If you make it to Columbia in time for lunch on Friday, both of these offer good buffet options with good but not gourmet food and are area staples:
PALMETTO PIG, Columbia - Restaurant Reviews, Photos & Phone Number - Tripadvisor
Weekday Lunch Menu | Seawell's Food Caterers (seawellscateringsc.com) - near the stadium so you can get a lay of the land if you like (without the crowd and traffic).

For walking around with options, you'll want to hit the Vista for drinks and more upscale food and 5 Points for the college bar/food scene.

I actually live in Fayetteville Arkansas so I only get to make the trip to Starkville for one home game a year. I chose to skip a home game trip and get to Columbia since the opportunity doesn’t pop up often. I have no idea if it’s finished or not. I assume so.
