Figures he’d be the one to lead ND to the championship. If we had kept him we would have gone 11-1. Karma is a *****. We can’t see to keep the good ones sometimes.

I went to bed at halftime and just saw the news with the results/score/ending. I HATE that he was able to send them to the championship game. Would have much rather seen him miss one to tie it up. Yes, I’m petty.

I told my wife that exact record last night. Had Jeter remained loyal, Cocks would have gone 11-1, would have played in the SEC Championship game. Win that & you're the #2 seed. Lose it & host the 1st round playoff game at W-B. Mitch Jeter not remaining loyal had massive ripple effects for us & college football this season. Screw that guy!

There is no way Mitch Jeter was the difference in us going 11-1 vs 9-3. In fact, he was injured for half of the year, was 6 out of 12 on regular season field goals, and the commentators last night said that was the worst FG% in D1.

But clearly, now that he’s healthy again, he’s a really good kicker. But it’s a fantasy to say he is the reason we missed the playoffs.

LSU game with Jeter=win
Alabama game with Jeter=win

A lot of the "go for it" or "fake it" decisions Beamer made would have also been different had we had Jeter. He would have just taken the 3 points.

If we wouldn't have picked-up Rocket and Kenard (amongst others), we would have likely been looking at 3-6 wins. The portal giveth and the portal taketh away. Happy for Jeter.

This is possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever read in this group. That’s saying a lot.

Jeter was a grad transfer who grew up a ND fan IIRC. I wish he would've stayed because I believe his leg would have gotten us those LSU and Bama wins, but I'm not gonna get in my feels about it. Good for him.

All you Jeter bashers, what would you think if you were him? We don’t own any player just like the boss in an org. Part of your job is to retain talent. Do you think Jeter would be famous if he stayed at SC like he is now, and oh by the way whatever MS degree he gets at ND is pretty darn valuable. Give him a break.

I always hate it when players leave the program, but I certainly understand why a kid might want to play for Notre Dame. They have a legacy that has endured through decades of average performances. I'm not a fan of the Irish, however I do like their coach.
Also, I think it's a bit of a reach to say we would have been 11 and 1 if he had stayed.

I don't like ND at all but I do like Freeman. I really dislike Franklin for some reason but found myself pulling for PSU. One of those odd games where I didn't like either team.

I'm a lot less bothered by a graduate transfer than a undergrad transfer. Once you graduate from a place, there's nothing unnatural or disloyal about pursuing a grad program at another school.

Having said that, if Jeter had played for the Gamecocks this year and had continued to kick as well as he had in previous years, we probably win at least one more game and make the playoffs. But if he had kicked for us the same way he kicked for ND this year, he wouldn't have helped us. He did not kick well in the regular season.

I'd hope you wouldn't have bet serious money on that.
Why?

Jeter missed a 26 yarder in the national championship.

Herrera was 4 for 4 from 20-29 yards this year.

Herrera struggled from 40 to 49 yards out going 7 for 11, this year, his miss in the bowl game was 41 yards out.

Seems like Herrera from 26 yards would be a pretty good bet.

He wasn’t pursuing a grad program. His dad basically quotes him as saying he was pursuing a school with more offense and notoriety.
His dad grew up going to Clemson games and also quoted as “never liking South Carolina”.
He also dealt with injuries in week 3. Probably contributed to his woes, but his 2 misses against NIU was before that and the reason they lost.
Didn't bother me a bit he missed that FG against Ohio State, but mainly because I don't like Notre Dame

He was our worst field goal kicker since the Fat Bradstard era.

Well you said he was a bad bet from 20 something yards and he was 4 for 4 from that range, so you were wrong on that, stats show it.

And your wrong about him being the worst field goal kicker since Bradstar era, if we go by stats

He hit 71%, and hit all his extra points, we could barely make a field goal, Holts's first year, kicker was closer to 50% then 70% on field goals.

Several years under Holtz, kickers hit less then 70% field goals for us, there were some bad kickers for Spurrier under 70% on field goals , and we had a kicker miss double digit field goals under Muschamp.

He's a grad student at ND. Whatever football reasons he may have had to go there, he is, by definition, pursuing a graduate degree. He gave us four years. While it would have been nice if he stayed another year, I don't think there's an argument he owed us anything more.

School had 0 to do with his decision at any point in the process. You are correct he is labeled a grad student.
But there’s nothing different about his decision than an undergrad would make. There was never any loyalty there from the get go, so it’s all the same to me regardless how he is labeled.
I don’t get bothered by any of it. Just noting when you say you’re less bothered by a grad transfer, to me that doesn’t make sense.
