We Po Ole Mississippi State. At least that’s the excuse a lot of people want to give for our Athletics Department. With our membership in the SEC we should be a Top 20-30 Athletics Department.

Why would anybody be surprised at these linked rankings, the only ones of these we participate in are M & W BK? All the other points are for bowling, fencing, gymnastics, rifle, skiing, hockey, swimming, diving, wrestling, indoor track. Do we really want to pour any money into those sports?

I came here to post that same thing. Stanford used to run away with this for years. Stanford sponsors damn near everything though.

So unless you guys want to pony up for a natatorium and a fleet of row boats, I'd just shrug this off.

The rating is based on the sports you participate in not total number

Ole Miss participates in the same sports as State. Kentucky in #1 in SEC so I'm not sure what sports they are in.

You are right about the Number of sports in this one whereas the SEC is based on performance in only the sports you participate.

Did you look at this list? Here are the only sports being reported:

Women's Basketball
Men's Basketball
Women's Bowling
Women's Ice Hockey
Men's Ice Hockey
Rifle
Skiing
Women's Swimming
Men's Swimming
Women's Indoor Track & Field
Men's Indoor Track & Field
Men's Wrestling

Which of the above should we build our non-revenue dynasty around?

Do you really give a **** about this list or are you just looking for a new and innovative way to knock Cohen?

Actually... Ole Miss participates in Rifle and State doesn't. 80 of their points came from that alone. They also had an up year in Women's Basketball, but the bulk of their points came from Indoor Track & Field.

Kentucky has the following:

Men's sportsWomen's sports
BaseballBasketball
BasketballCross country
Cross countryGolf
FootballGymnastics
GolfSoftball
SoccerSoccer
Swimming & divingSwimming and Diving
TennisTennis
Track & field[SUP]†[/SUP]Track & Field[SUP]†[/SUP]

So they also have Rifle plus Swimming & Diving and Gymnastics, which are all on that list.

I was basing the Ole Miss/State on the previous post for SEC trophy. The numbers were the same for participating teams. If they were in rifle should that number make them higher for teams? Maybe SEC doesn't recognize Rifle.

Since we aren't in many sports shouldn't we be good in the ones we participate in?

Oh, I want us to win in everything, but I'm not going to sit here and get in my feelings because we're not a Cross Country Running powerhouse. So your list included only Winter sports, which accounted for half the scores. I found the Fall Sports here:
https://nacda.com/documents/2022/1/12//Jan_13ConferenceStandings.pdf?id=4505

This includes:
Women's Cross Country
Men's Cross Country
Women's Field Hockey
FBS FB
FCS FB
Women's Soccer
Men's Soccer
Women's Volleyball
Men's Water Polo

So, if I were to compare us to Ole Miss, this is the breakdown:

SportOle MissMississippi State
W CC67.50
M CC600
W FH00
FCS FB00
FBS FB6625
W Soccer250
M Soccer00
W VB2525
M WP00
Total243.550

Now... I may have missed your lamentations on the lack of success in Men's and Women's Cross Country and apologies if I did, but in the sports primarily discussed on this board, Ole Miss held a 41 point advantage... 66 if you count Women's Soccer (which State beat them in head to head, btw). You can do a similar breakdown in Winter Sports and you'll see the same thing. In that, it's Rifle, which State doesn't sponsor, and Indoor Track & Field, which... again... I doubt you'd even notice if it wasn't on a list like this.

The SEC doesn't sponsor Rifle. Ole Miss competes in the GARC for Rifle, so they don't get credit for SEC standings for purposes of that year old USA Today article. Same reason Florida doesn't get SEC credit for Lacrosse since they compete in the American.

Also, I went ahead and broke down the Winter Sports as well:

Ole MissMississippi State
Women's Basketball250
Men's Basketball00
Women's Bowling00
Fencing00
Women's Gymnastics00
Men's Gymnastics00
Women's Ice Hockey00
Men's Ice Hockey00
Rifle800
Skiing00
Women's Swimming00
Men's Swimming00
Women's Indoor T&F72.750
Men's Indoor T&F66.7522.5
Men's Wrestling00
Total244.522.5

<tbody>

So... again... Maybe I missed your lamentations on the current state of our Women's Indoor Track & Field program, but as far as I can tell, the only sport really discussed on this board where Ole Miss held an advantage over State was the 25 points they got in Women's Basketball for losing in the first round to South Dakota.
