Someone knew these kids really well. Who I have no idea but it was someone who knew these kids where they slept in the house. Why someone would do these heinous crimes is beyond me.

That may be the only real evidence LE has to go on.

Bits and pieces. Very strange. Investigation doesn’t seem to be handled very well.
Yes. Unbelievable that they don't have any suspects after three+ weeks of investigation. I can't imagine being a parent of one if the four roommates killed.

I have, and it's does seem that the local investigators are overmatched. Why would it take them over 3 weeks to look at local video cameras to ID that white car close to the crime scene? It also seems like if they would let out a little more information, they could get help from the community.

Not just that, they screwed up from the get go when they said it was a targeted attack. May end up being, but every other involved law enforcement and even the medical examiner said publicly that they had no idea what evidence would lead them to believe that is true. They retracted it, but the bug was planted that they were over their heads. Shortly after they lost the faith of some of the parents.

They don't seem to have the manpower to knock on enough doors and ask the right questions. You would like to think that the FBI will take the lead in this deal before they change the name from Moscow to Mayberry.

I don't know - I could see it being a crime of opportunity. Someone that saw them, watched them, and then committed the murders when the doors weren't locked. It would make sense that the four that were together were killed where they slept, but that the other roommates were untouched (as if the killer didn't know they were there).

State police may take it over if not already involved. FBI doesn't have jurisdiction unless called in by local or state authorities.

Plus the possibility of small town politics that may be hindering the investigation.
There can be some nasty pissing contests in local LE & prosecutors offices.

Some people truly deserve the death penalty and to burn in hell. Whoever did that deserves both.

Went down that rabbit hole a couple weeks ago and have been following it ever since. Crazy case, either LE is doing an incredible job keeping evidence close to the vest, or there isn't much evidence, or they're doing a terrible job investigating.... I'm hoping it's #1 because something seems way off with what's being discussed currently.

Just a follow up view point. Sometimes in these type cases the person or persons you would least expect to commit such a crime are the ones who
committed this crime. Point in case a few years ago it was discovered in the MidWest that an individual working as a postal worker had been
committing crimes over a long period of time. Who that would be is a million dollar question. Sometimes the person or persons are looking you right in the eye as the investigation continues.

After 4 weeks, it's getting less and less likely this one is going to be solved any time soon. It will probably be solved eventually, but that will likely happen as the result of some random connection made down the road to another crime or incident (like how the Kohlhepp/motorsports crime was finally solved, for example). There are a lot of federal and state resources on the job at the moment, but they will gradually have to step away as priorities take them elsewhere. They won't step away completely, but unless there are breaks in this case, there will never be more state and federal resources devoted to this case than there have been in the last four weeks.

It's worth noting that since 2000, a little more than 40% of the homicide cases in the US go uncleared.

The answer sir, is what separates us (sane) from them. (The insane) Read a book once : Whoever Fights Monsters / FBI dude who got the whole profile thing started. He interviewed lots of serial killers. There was three stories that stuck out. 1) Ed Kemper. Got released from youthy jail for murder and then went on his spree as an adult. At a routine parole meeting with his handler the handler jokingly asked him if he had killed anyone lately. Kemper didn't lie. He told the handler "Yeah, I got some severed heads in the trunk of the car right now." The handler thought he was joking and let it pass. No inspection. Kemper was telling the truth. 2) Another dude would go to apartments and if the door was unlocked he would go in and kill everyone. He was asked why he never knocked or rang the doorbell or simply broke in if the door was locked. He replied "Because that would be rude." 3) Something like 90+ % of all of the killers interviewed said if the people had dogs they'd move on to another target.

It was at that point I got a Doberman Pinscher.

Interesting that they have not come up with the driver of that White Hyundai yet. You would think if that was your car and you live in or near that town and were in close proximity of that house late that Saturday night and you were innocent. You would scream out "it wasn't me "
Or maybe they have and not said anything yet.

For those of you that lived in Columbia during the early '80s, do you recall the "Root Doctor" murders? Not to mention the Sharon Tate murders in the late '60s. in California. Investigations like these take time, even with all the advancements made in the last 50+ years since Manson came into the public realm. I was a CSS at the end of my police career (Charlotte) and the amount of time it would take just to process such a scene would be a massive undertaking in and of itself. Just thankful to be retired and no longer have to roam the "7th Circle of Hell" on earth...where you see first-hand man's inhumanity to man.
