if you hire Raffo and he is relieved of his duties in 3 to 4 years due to poor job performance then you should expect to be relieved of your duties as well if we hire a President worth a damn.

Honestly, if Raffo were hired, I don't think he would last more than three seasons.

fans who support a coach just because he is a coach at MSU regardless of performance.

After two years of miserable baseball the excuse will be how bad Polk left the program and one can't expect to rebuild in only 3 or 4 years yada, yada, yada. I only hope that a new President will ball up and do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

I am sorta easing myself into the reality that it will be Raffo and accepting the fact that MSU baseball will be at the bottom of the SEC for 4-6 years. All because of a crazy SOB.

We see how well loyalty to school ties helped Alabama football through the 90s and early 00's

Does everyone know something I don't know because one day, all I hear is that we are doing a National Search, and now we're "residing ourselves to the fact that Raffo will be the coach"?

I feel pretty confident that Raffo will not be the next HC at MSU

post?

Not that that list is true but I made me realize how easy a list could be constructed making Raffo the best choice from a strategically complied list or a list with great names which would not consider leaving their present job sprinkled in with several names that we simply would not want. It can be done.

I sadly think it is going to happen.

it made me realize how easy a national list could be stacked for a desired effect.

Chartreuse helicopters and all etc. etc.

....was as valid as a short list you or I could come up with. Ed Orgeron's head coaching prowess had more credibility than that list.

especially one that has been around the dept. for a couple of years, the last thing I would want to do is piss off about 90% of the fanbase. I would want to try to make an "impact hire", and this is probably going to be it. We're not going to fire Croom after he has taken us to the LB and beat Bama and Ole Miss in the same year, and Stans ain't getting fired after taking us to the Big Dance. Now, baseball having a losing season- it probably stands to reason that we should take a hard look at the program and maybe make some changes- Diamond Girls be damned.

How much sense would it make to piss Polk off and have him act like a total *** for the whole season and then turn around and hire the guy he wanted us to hire all along. If Raffo were going to be hired, we wouldn't have seen Polk being a public embarassment to himself, the team and the university for the past 2 months.

no matter what is said on this or any other board I believe the handwriting is on the wall for anyone who will open their eyes that Byrne is NOT going to hire Raffo. The ONLY way it would happen is if somehow things fall through with every other decent coach he wants to go after. I believe if Byrne thought Raffo was even pretty close in credentials with other candidates he was considering he would have just given into Polk and named Raffo as the successor already. Given he's already gone through the trouble of pissing Polk off by essentially NOT already agreeing to Polk's demand about his successor, I would be shocked if he came back and ended up naming Raffo as the guy anyway.

but they basically got the SMU guy nixed from being their FB coach via the Internet (when they hired Cut I think). Reckon Greg reads this or the Sheep Page (full disclosure: I post on the Sheep Page, too; although I have oft defend TheBiggerM who I believe to be mstateglfr on this page).

but I don't think Greg is doing this because of what we say. I think he's doing it because he's actually talked to people besides Polk and his croonies and has seen what we can potentially do if we have a good team and a coach that doesn't make lame excuses. And I think he really has some knowledge of the baseball coaching community that goes beyond Polk. He has some ties to Pat Casey as well as Cohen, so he may very well hire someone "out of the family"- like O'Conner or Walter at UNO.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had some kind of a handshake agreement with Cohen this whole time that if he ever became the AD, he would hook Cohen up with the MSU job. They would be helping each other out in that case because hiring Cohen would be popular (or acceptable) with most of the fans and at the same time Cohen would get a high profile coaching job.

We're going to find out.

I would agree with these points. I sent Byrne some materials on Tom Walter of UNO and he responded quickly. Bart Gregory of the BC sent me an email the next day inviting me to rejoin the BC (my membership had lapsed due to the storm aftermath and a # of other factors) along with some additional comments on Walter.

I think it's a new day at MSU when it comes to the AD's office and marketing. This new regime already appears more responsive and aggressive. I don't think I received one piece of BC material since the storm (Katrina) when LT was in charge.
