Ellis also had offers from Ole Miss, Auburn, Oregon and Missouri among others.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Ellis is the No. 5 recruit in the state and No. 23 offensive tackle nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Ellis is the No. 322 recruit in the country. "

Nice pickup!

No. He's long and lean, but has plenty of frame to put on a ton of weight.

The last OT we got from Laurel was 6'5" 260 as a recruit. He's leaving as a 6'5" 310, and a likely 1st Rd draft prospect.... a.k.a Charles Cross.

But yeah, 245 made me take a second look as well.

If I remember right, Dillon Day was lighter than that out of high school. He worked out OK for us.

I wasn’t questioning whether he was a good prospect. Just don’t recall ever seeing a 4* OL under 250ish before….especially at that height. Its clear from the offer list that he’s legit.

6-5, 245? Is that a misprint?

It seems like it's a much better bet to take the guys that you need to park in front of a buffet than to take the guys that need to lose weight and get in better shape. I'm sure you can find success stories from both options, but it seems like it's a lot easier to come up with examples of people putting on 35+ lbs than losing even 25 lbs.

Ellis is a good get. Laurel has some talent we're looking at too. We had an in and got Ellis. Was expected.

Dillon Day was also shorter than that, but your point remains.

I remember watching Day's highschool film. He was athletic for a big guy and had a mean streak.

Hopefully this guy has a mean streak. Can't be soft and play Oline in the SEC.
