Good job on their part. They did not have the fans to fill a major expansion, but had demand for box seating.
By keeeping the bench seating at a minimum it will not look as bad when there are 20 people sitting there.

Just my opinion, but I think putting glass in and enclosing those luxury seats is stupid. At least from the pictures it looks like the seating will all be inside seating.

I've sat in both the sky boxes on the press box side at our stadium and in the club level seats, and I much prefer the club level seats. Being inside a box makes it feel almost like you're watching the game on TV, because you don't get as much of a feel for the atmosphere. The band and crowd noise is very muffled. I'd much rather sit outside and have the option to go inside. That's one thing I think we did right with our last two expansions, though I still complain about the fact that they have no uniformity.

i have been in the boxes at UPig and they can't open them fully (at least not the two boxes i have been in). the crowd is very muffled and you do feel like you are watching the game on TV....but you also are away from the cold and heat up there. i went to a game about 8 or 9 years ago and it was 35 when the game started.

you would think having the option to open them all the way up would be available though.</p>

I've never been in the ones at State, but I've been in the ones at Memphis, and they are sliding glass that can be raised. Of course with the way the seating is done, raising the window actually hinders the view of those at the back of the box.

Either way, I just thought I'd throw that out there since from my experience it's not as good to be sitting inside during a game. Obviously when the weather is extreme it's nice to have that option, but I still think I prefer being outside.

Didn't they get the state to fund that expansion? If so, how the hell did they pull that off because we've got a basketball practice facility and a baseball stadium that could use a few dollars.

I sure hope the folks on the bottom row on the sides got a good discount, or at least a big screen TV

Skyboxes = revenue to pay off the debt.

baseball stadium and basketball facility = not tied directly to revenue.

And they did get a serious donation as well, from what I understand.

Thanks for posting that rendering. I was trying to figure out if I had dreamed that up when I saw the actual expansion. Still, it's not bad for "The Rock" I suppose.

they have changed quite a bit of what they do. They are happy about some things and pissed about others. Any sane person would be happy with not having tuesday games, but apparently many of them were blindsided when they got their ticket renewal notices and their seats, parking passes, and membership dues all went up. That was the good thing about bower. They didn't have to pay him much. Fedora better bring the excitement they are expecting pretty early on (and by that, I mean beat an sec or similar conference team at least 1/3 of the time).

...my stepfather's a bit perturbed (he's a USM season ticket holder) that USM is (has been?) planning on converting the east side seats under the overhang to club level seating. (His seats are in the first row past the overhang.) He's sat in front of friends of his for the past few years, and it looks like that they are going to be forced to move.

I don't know what the status of that project is though.

I bet you a $100 that end-zone section will be dubbed "The Eagles Nest" by the first game. They aren't known for their originality down there... (See: Rock, The)

it is already being called the eagle's nest on their website and the rock is in reference to the fact that the football players used to live in the stadium. it had a dorm in it and they called it the rock because they thought it was like being in a prison...not much like the prison JJ is about to be in for a very long time but a prison nonetheless.
