Here is the email they sent out.

Okay, I know everyone is calling, emailing, or wondering about the status of this summer's camps. Well, the administration has just made the decision to cancel all the 2008 summer camp sessions. Reasons for this are numerous. Our entire existing staff is being let go, the new staff will not be moved here in time to execute the camps, most of the camp staff we hire has cancelled due to the coaching change.

Personally, I am truly sorry that you and your teams are being left hanging like this. We have truly enjoyed working with many of you in the past, and we were excited about the teams we had coming in and the plans we had for you. We have been asked to vacate our offices by Friday, so if you need to contact someone after that you'll want to call April at (662) 325-3597. She will be the one processing your refunds, but she is out of the office until Monday.

Best of luck to each and every one of you.

probably be a nightmare. better to wait and put on a good camp next year than crappy ones now.

edit to add: i wonder how ron will take the idea of "his" camps not happening. maybe if he hadn't been such a ***** he could have stayed on and facilitated the camps this summer. too bad though he had to go and act like an effing moron.

to get the Travelocity gnome out of the building. Besides, Cohen will actually recruit off campus instead of only through the baseball camps. It sucks, but one year without won't kill the camps.

Nice...bitching about a situation that was handled, in your opinion poorly, and not offering any substantial alternative. So you're just bitching for the sake of it...

You sound like Nancy Pelosi.

Cancelling the camps or the tone of that letter?

I can understand calling off the camps. As dawgstudent said, what could they do?

As for the letter posted, I understand that this was the guy in charge of the camps that wrote the letter, but damn. I wish he'd left his personal feelings out of it and just acknowledged that circumstances dictated that the camps be cancelled. The tone kind of offends me.

I think you're reading too much into his email. I thought Hedges was very gracious. I believe it's a sincere statement that he was sorry for the inconvenience the campers are going through:

If Raffo was hired as head coach, the camps would be ran with Polk. Now, he walks even though he will most likely still be in Starkville becoming a "volunteer assistant coach".

<p style="font-style: italic;">"Polk said he hoped to have his office cleaned out by the end of the week. He had hoped to stay in Starkville and continue his association with MSU, but is now unsure about his plans.</p> <p style="font-style: italic;">He said he has received some feelers about becoming a volunteer assistant coach, but didn't rule out staying in Starkville.</p> <p style="font-style: italic;">"I would love to be part of John's family, but we've got to get over this somehow," Polk said."</p> <h3>

stayed in Georgia the summer of his triumphant (sure) return and ran their camps.

Just further proof that Polk is a complete ******* and does not give MSU's best interest much significance.

That assistant who wrote the letter can stick something up his..........and break it off.

Of course they had to cancel camps, but that letter should have been written by someone else. That guy sounds bitter.

Another group of kids who won't learn how to look at a grooved strike one, quietly walk to the bench after a called strike three, or how to hit into a rally-killing double play.

That sucks for the hs players but necessary.

If you guys have sons, you should send him to a baseball camp. I went for two years, 88-89. Pat Mac ran the camp then. Some players would help as well as numerous high school coaches. It was a lot of fun for a high schooler to be able to play on DNF and use the facilities and etc. Not to mention all the instruction and help you get with fundamentals and mechanics.

My Cohen story....I ran into Cohen one night at baseball camp in the lobby of Evans dorm. Anyway, I walk into the lobby and I see this extremely hot chick....the hottest chick I had ever seen in my life at that time. Then after I come back to my senses and stop staring.... I see the guy next to her staring back at me like he did not appreciate my admiration of this girl.....it was Cohen. I got my coke out of the vending machine and split. </p>

said employee contact clients (campers) after being fired and you are upset that the employee apologized for the inconvenience?????? You are lucky that is all the letter said (although i am thinking someone must have been smart enough to review the thing before it went out and thought there was nothing wrong with it).

that with the hiring of Cohen, we will never watch a called strike three again. That kind of stupid **** only happened to Polk-coached teams.

from Byrne. Memo to Greg B: Don't let the dead wood you just fired communicate publically in an official capacity on behalf of a program. Not a good idea.

I just like to point out sheepish posts that are designed to get responses from similar-minded sheep. Polk is everyone's favorite whipping boy on here. Nothing will get you more "attaboys" from the woolies on here than bashing Polk or Raffo. Ok, maybe describing how you got banend from Gene's page will get you more, but you know what I mean.

Assoc. Press needs an attaboy, along with people on GP, Starkville Daily News, Yahoo Sports, ESPNu, etc.

I can see what you are saying but in this instance it appears that almost everyone is on the same page when it comes to Polk's actions. Now as for Raffo, I think there is a split. Some people feel the need to bash him and others think it is unwarranted. I happen to be of the second group. And since the group is split we have seen posts throwing Raffo under the bus and we have seen people responding negatively to it.

Taking up for Polk right now is retarded at best.

Criticism for thinking he ran the athletic department? Yes. Criticism for telling Cohen not to take the job? Sure.

Criticism for teaching kids at baseball camps how to "take strike three and quietly walk back to the dugout"? No.
Criticism for teaching kids at baseball camp how to "hit into a rally-ending double play"? No.

The first ones I listed are legitimate criticisms. And although those horses have been beaten to death repeatedly, they are open game because Polk can't keep his stupid pie-hole shut.

The last couple are just stupid sheep remarks intended to induce other sheep into following along with more stupid remarks.

This board has always been a love/hate thing with me. I love the board because everyone is free to say what they want, almost without exception. That freedom causes more open dialogue and breaking news than any other board I've been on. But it also has it's faults. Every board has it's sheep. If you want to hear a bunch of "baaaaaaaa's" on Gene's page, just start a thread with "MSU rawks big time!!! WooHoo Maron Whit!!!!!11!1" If you want to hear a bunch of "baaaaaaa's" on this page, just start a thread with "MSU sucks because [insert suckage here]".

MSU baseball has underperformed. Just like if Croom sucks this year, it will be talked about. No excuse for this team to not go bowling.

Mad's head may explode if he tries to justify his constant Croom bashing as somehow less-"sheepish" than Polk bashing. Damn you!

there's legitimate criticism and then there's Mutt's (and others) feeble attempts to be funny. There's a difference.</p>

but at the root of Mutt's exaggeration is a truth. We strike out too much and we hit into too many double plays.

So at its core, there is a legit criticism.

I wish it were more simply stated as well though.

constant Croom bashing? Do what? Sure I've criticized Croom in the past. Yeah, I was one that along with Heydog predicted 3 wins in '05 or '06, whenever that was. But I'm not a constant critic. Croom quietened a lot of the criticism last year. If anything, I tire of hearing the constant criticism of all the MSU coaches.
