Jonathan Holder was named first team 6A as a pitcher.

Jonathan Lindgren was named first team 4A as a pitcher.

Brandon Woodruff made first team 1A as an outfielder.

I tried last week but didn't have much time to search around.

What I found was he went 6-4 with 90K's and an ERA under 2- That's a guesstimate on my part becsuse they didn't figure his ERA out. But it said that he allowed 9 earned runs this year.

His high school team was bad for them this year- they finished last in their division, so the silver lining there is there were no playoffs to overwork him.

Also, a heads up for anyone that wants to check out our recruits stats- next weekend the Clarion-Ledger will announce the All-State team for this year, and they usually have stats for the players that make it- and I think most of our in state signees will be on the first team, or they should be, anyway.

he will be probably be drafted, though. Really, Woodruff is the only one we have to worry about and maybe Lindgren, but we also will probably get Lindgren.

Holder might get drafted, and maybe even Will Cox, but if they do, it will be late in the draft.

I'm 90% sure of that. The real question is where- and the rumor that I keep hearing is if he is drafted in the top 10 rounds, he will go pro. I think that is certainly possible with him, but it's also very possible that he could fall out of the top 10- right now, I think that chance is 50/50. Perfect Game had him going from 6-10 (I think- it has been awhile since I read the article). His draft stock could have fallen a little bit because his high school team didn't make the playoffs, so it has been awhile since he has played.

Is this class better- as far as pitching, yes, I think it is for sure. We have at least two guys that I think will be SEC weekend starters, possibly as freshmen, and then Woodruff is a dual position guy who I think can be a closer, and the Will Cox probably will be a weekend starter down the line over time. Jonathan Holder will be a good pitcher too. As far as position players, no. Overall, I honestly don't think it is as good as our class last year. Last year, we had five players that were drafted, and then some good players like Adam Frazier and Evan Mitchell that were not drafted but will be very good players for us.

Here's the deal with Wes Rea as I understand it. If he is healthy, he will stay. If he is not, he will go somewhere else- JUCO most likely. The good news is he is going to play in the Cotton States League in Jackson, so he will get a chance to show what he can do. I'm pulling for him because we when he is healthy, he is a great power hitter. We really missed him this year a lot.

It seems on paper that Woodruff has the best potential as being drafted high and with his size I would expect MLB scouts really like. I suppose the downsize is the competition he faced but my daddy always said about baseball players, "you either can hit, throw and field or you can't". He always said you can get help with coaching but he felt baseball players had to be more natural athletes than football and basketball, I think basketball players are the best athletes because of quickness, size and jumping ability which isn't as important to baseball players.

Seems we have several possible closers, hope it's like Florida's staff which they seem to have 3 or 4 closers. I'm really kinda concerned we haven't signed a sure handed SS, I know Frazier may have the upper hand on this position but I question his range. It's been a really long time since we have had a great SS that not only could field but hit as well.

in Chase Lewallen but couldn't get him in school. Hopefully Henderson gets his vision problems sorted out and is available to at least potentially play SS. Sort of seems, with our lack of position players, that we might would have added a JUCO infielder this spring but it doesn't look like we are doing that although we did at least sign the additional JUCO catcher.
