Very happy with the win. NSU played as good as expected and better at some stretches. MY play calling gets vanilla (frustrating)when ahead but you can see a change when needed and the players react well. Wish we kept the pedal down more often!
Anyway, weird thought popped in my mind that some of you legal eagles might know the answer to - does MSU cover the cost of legal fees for the players that are involved in the tunnel situation or are they **** out of luck and need to pay on their own? I would assume the school would cover but big business works in mysterious ways.
If players are not “employees”, but just students - do they warrant legal coverage?

That is a good question. I would have said no until they read the statement by the MSU President in which she lobbied for "restorative justice". How about justice for the kid who got a concussion from being hit in the head with a helmet?

With precidence and Jimmy's ahole comments, Michigan should be worried.

Ordinarily, no. If a faculty member is the driver in a hit-and-run, a school does not cover his or her legal fees.

I would guess the MSU is under no obligation to defend students or student athletes charged with criminal behavior.
However, I believe the statement issued yesterday infers that MSU will provide assistance.
My guess is that this assistance will end with the verdict. In other words, I doubt they will continue with potential appeals etc.
In the civil arena, I wouldn't be shocked to see a suit vs. Michigan for inadequate security.

Not defending the actions of the "Tunnel Eight." However, if one is inclined to play the devil's advocate....the investigation was conducted by Michigan University Police. The prosecutor who filed charges (I have read) is a UM graduate and unabashed Wolverine Fan.
No matter how despicable the actions.....the 8 were representing MSU and wearing their uniform.
I can't see how MSU could pass on giving some legal assistance to these young men, who likely otherwise would need to resort to a public defender.
If Michigan player(s) actually sustained substantial injuries they would be properly documented and the 1 MSU player charged with a felony is in deep do do.
The other 6 charged with misdemeanors (if their records are clean) will likely escape significant penalty.
In civil suits....how does the University of Michigan escape liability? Any lawyers?
