Must see/do/eat/drink in Maryland

What are the must see, do, eat, and drink places for Maryland? Do they have any iconic photo spots like the Lion? We’re staying in DC so you can extend to there. We’ve visited the majority of the sites in DC before so no need to suggest monuments or museums.

Need to go to the Vu (as in Randevu bar), Town Hall , but I think they closed the Starlight. or when you drive in on the main drag, they have a Turtle carved in the hedges in the middle of the road. Word is, if a virgin were to graduate from UM, the turtle would get wings and fly!

A neat place to go is the Guiness Open Gate Brewery near the airport. Don’t know if that is part of your journey. About 23 miles from College Park.

Need to go to the Vu (as in Randevu bar), Town Hall , but I think they closed the Starlight. or when you drive in on the main drag, they have a Turtle carved in the hedges in the middle of the road. Word is, if a virgin were to graduate from UM, the turtle would get wings and fly!

Looks like the Rendezvous is now the Cornerstone Grill and Loft.

I won’t be traveling north of College Park. We’re flying into DCA, staying in DC, and will be taking the train around.

Any legendary restaurants in DC that I should consider? I’m looking at the Old Ebbitt Grill.

Most people give thumbs up to Old ebbitts grill. Crab cakes are supposed to be great
Clydes in Gorgetown was like the first ‘fern’ bar in the US. Classic place
I was only teasing about some of those places in college park Starlight was a strip joint the others dumpy college bars, but they were fun in your 20’s !!
there was a place called Bentleys that was a good pub back in the day close to the stadium though I don’t know about today

Jaleo on 7th St NW is a tapas type Spanish restaurant. It’s a great upscale type place which has been there for about 25 years.

Brasserie Beck (Belgian) and Clyde’s of Georgetown are other good choices.

Depending on how much time you want to spend on the Metro you could always go to Old Town Alexandria.

We’ve spent a lot of time there in the past. Not opposed to it, but trying to stay within the city. We’re staying near Metro Center.

I used to live in DC, Capitol Hill area, the scene changes constantly in the city and rhe burbs. DC is truly a great fun dining, drinking, partying and music town.

Google done resources like what is attached. Pick up the City paper when you get there to see what Bands are playing where etc etc.

The Old Ebbit Grille and Clyde’s are for tourists and clueless folks. You can do better, much better than a pre made, frozen back in 2019 crab cake at rhe Old Ebbit grill for way less.

If you are looking for old, reliable and local, When I go back to DC the one place I always hit is Crisfield’s way up Georgia Avenue for a seafood lunch. Get the Stuffed shrimp or Norfolk. Dozen oysters, beers, plate of Norfolk style with fries and slaw.

We like to go to the Mulligan's Grill & Pub on the golf course. Food is pretty good as are the drinks.

We’ve spent a lot of time there in the past. Not opposed to it, but trying to stay within the city. We’re staying near Metro Center.

Definitely recommend staying in/around DC - Old Town is great, and charming, but it doesn't have the food scene it once had (Chef Cathal Armstrong took his ball and went home) and doesn't have much in the way of other cultural/artistic attractions besides the waterfront. Metro Center is close to Chinatown, and lots of great restaurants in that area. Daikaya on 6th across from the Verizon Center is great for ramen/Japanese food; but if you want something a little more comfort/casual maybe check out 'Succotash' and/or 'The Smith'. 'Zatinya' is a Mediterranean fare standard but a little more upscale. People who have recommended Jaleo are spot on, and Old Ebbit Grille is fine, but it's more for the history and atmosphere than anything else.

The Hawk and the Dove on capital hill around 300 PennsylvaniaAve SE is a good dive bar. I spent many an evening there back when I’d frequent DC for work. It’s a place for staffers from Congress hang out among the lowlifes. It may have gone more upmarket more recently. There are a few other bars and pubs in the small restaurant district along there.

If you can get a spot, St. Anslem is one of the best meals I've ever had. It's over near Union Station.
