a year ago everyone was elated that we were getting a legit 4 star qb prospect. Now he's just chopped liver and we're looking to get a 5 star, would've been starter at Florida next year.

2 years ago some thought Croom had it figured out (I'm vomiting blood thinking about that) and Wes Carroll was the qb of the future.

That's simply not the case. Brantley had become the heir apparent. Cameron Newton is a good player, but he is being vastly overblown when people call him a "program-changer" or 'the best quarterback in the nation".

before you start saying he would not have been the heir apparent to Football Jesus.

If he signs with MSU, Tebow was worried that Newton was going to pass him on the depth chart, so he planted that laptop in his dorm room.

If he signs with AU, Newton was buried on the depth chart at UF, and would have ridden the pine at UF until he decided to become a criminal/thug/baby killer. Im glad that POS didn't sign with MSU and infect our locker room with his criminal behavior.

I think MSU still is in great position to land Newton, and if he was going to commit to AU, I think he would have done it already. The longer it goes from his visit to his announcement, the better it is for MSU.

2007 - Newton was 2nd string.
2008 - Newton entered season as 2nd string, fighting injury. Then, was redshirted. Then, was arrested.

There really isn't alot documented other than speculation as to what the story was during 2008. Was he redshirted because of injury? Was he redshirted because Brantley was better than him? Was he redshirted to give Newton 3 whole years to play assuming Tebow left after 2008? We don't know. I don't think Brantley was officially titled the "heir apparent" until Newton left.

It doesn't matter either. <span style="font-style: italic;">For our system and current situation,</span> he's by far and away the guy that tops the list as "program changer" and "best qb in the nation". Name one other QB out there that has a better chance than him to step in at day 1 and make as high of an impact as he could. There's too many intangibles (past history with Mullen, knows the system, fits the system) that puts the guy into dream recruit status. It is extremely rare for MSU to ever have an opportunity to have a player that wasn't even on the prior year's roster to come in an make a significant and immediate difference at the QB position. Who knows when a prospect like this will be available again at such a critical position on the field where we've been starved for performance for so long. I don't think it's being overblown at all.

we were "close" on Ryan Perrilloux as well. Now that I think of it, Newton and Perrilloux remind me a lot of each other. I am shocked Newton doesn't have his own website.

for us to be able to add a QB that has not only played for Fla, but could have possibly been next year's starter, is a huge leap forward from where we were.

We saw against Cotton Bowl-bound Mississippi how effective Relf was by just making a couple of throws. Newton is at least as good a runner if not better, and a much better passer. Offensively, there is no limit next season with him at QB.

**edited to add**- the term "program changer" came straight from the mouth of one of our coaches. If they feel that way, it's ok for us to feel that way too </p>

MSU is to perriloux; as Auburn is to Newton

that perriloux flury came as fast as it arrived. kind of reminds me of newton and auburn.
