NC State having one of the finest postseason runs ever

Entered the ACC tournament as a 10 seed with a 9-11 conference record. Had essentially a 0% chance to win the ACCT, which was their only path to the NCAAT. Their coach was expected to be dismissed when they inevitably got bounced from the ACCT.

Instead, they won 5 games in 5 days, beating Duke and UNC to win the ACCT, claim a berth in the NCAAT and earn their head coach an automatic extension.

They have proceeded to win as the lower seed in 4 straight NCAA games, including knocking off 2 seed Marquette and 2 seed Duke (for a second time in the same postseason).

Purdue will be a massive task, but it’s been a postseason run for the ages.

Yep, they were dead in the water on 3/9. Finished the season on a 4-game losing streak and lost 7 of 9. Lost to Duke and UNC on 3/2 and 3/4. Fast forward 12 days and they beat Duke and UNC in a span of 3 days. Have won 9 elimination games in a row.

The thing that makes it stand out to me is that their head coach was done. A goner. Now he earned one 2-year extension with the ACC championship and another 2 year extension by winning the Sweet 16. His contract stipulates he can only earn one 2 year extension during a single year, though.

I hope they have a good showing against Purdue.

Keatts is a good coach. Its just hard as heck to win at a high level, and players would rather go to other schools before they think of NCSU. The extension has a chance to work out well for State. He built this team out of the portal. Now he can say to any player, freshman or transfer, "look what we can do here."

Didn't see the game live, but just saw a clip from the ACCT that showed UVA's best FT shooter miss the front end of a one-and-one while they leading NC State 58-55 with 5.3 seconds left in the game. NC State took the ball down and banked in a miracle 3 at the buzzer to tie it up and send it to OT.

They were that close to the NIT. One made FT and they were done.
