This is why it will expeditiously expand to 16. They just tripled the current deal. By simply adding teams to the playoff the conferences are tripling their annual CFP distribution. That’s insane.
100%! The only part about it I don't like is normal, every day fans expected to foot the bill while the conferences and networks are throwing around BILLIONS. But hey, your $10/mth is what REALLY counts...wink, wink.Hilarious.
And random fans get triggered when they see college players getting compensated to any degree.
Absolutely. On top of that, the NCAA is currently fighting in court to retain restrictions on incentivizing players to transfer. If they're defeated, it's going to get WILD!If one can't see how this is going to exponentially exacerbate the NIL/Portal issue, I honestly don't know what else to say.
I agree. The P2 shouldn't get a auto bid.![]()
CFP board vote on 5+7 model expected Feb. 20
The College Football Playoff board of managers is expected to vote Tuesday on a model that would include the five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams in the 12-team playoff this fall.www.espn.com
I'd go for 4 plus 8, just to be realistic.

It increases Vanderbilt's chances also. Who could argue with such an equity-seeking reform? If it goes to 16, it gives us a better shot at making the playoffs. I know some did not want it to expand beyond 4. I understand their reasoning. But I'm for anything that benefits us. Going to 16 obviously would.
I don't care about that because I'm not a Vanderbilt fan. If they want to ride our coattails, they better buckle up.It increases Vanderbilt's chances also. Who could argue with such an equity-seeking reform.![]()
I can easily see Bama fans saying the exact same thing about us.I don't care about that because I'm not a Vanderbilt fan. If they want to ride our coattails, they better buckle up.
Oh I'm not worried. I don't worry over what I consider ludicrous. Ludicrosity is the byproduct of ever-expanding inclusion in the championship phases of competitive sports.I don't care about that because I'm not a Vanderbilt fan. If they want to ride our coattails, they better buckle up.

Probably. But if we make a 16-team playoff, I would not care what they say.I can easily see Bama fans saying the exact same thing about us.
I'd say our having a winning season is a more important step in our making it to a playoff than expansion to 16 teams. The CFP "dumbing down" the playoff is a pathetic strategy for Carolina to rely on to make a playoff. If it goes to 16, it gives us a better shot at making the playoffs. If.Probably. But if we make a 16-team playoff, I would not care what they say.
Understood. But we are at a disadvantage re: NIL. My thinking is that if, in the beginning, we can squeeze in what you refer to as a "dumbing down" CFP , that will help negate the NIL disadvantage and allow us to attract recruits. As we bring in better talent, we can then make occasional appearances in the Top 10. If a team makes the Top 10, they are not "trash". Maybe you find flaw in that argument. But, that's my thought process.I'd say our having a winning season is a more important step in our making it to a playoff than expansion to 16 teams. The CFP "dumbing down" the playoff is a pathetic strategy for Carolina to rely on to make a playoff.
Honestly, I'm not sure that Beamer has the "coaching chops" to produce a big winner. I believe he has 2 years to convince us he does.If.
Just how long are we going to have to wait, as some of our posters have stated, they're running out of time to see the results.
Just sayin'
Funny...but we're all jacked about likely making a 68 team bball tournament. Makes perfect sense.I'd say our having a winning season is a more important step in our making it to a playoff than expansion to 16 teams. I'd rather watch us in a 16-team playoff than a meaningless exhibition bowl game.Funny...but we're all jacked about likely making a 68 team bball tournament. Makes perfect sense.
Yep! Absolutely right! You never know what might happen. But you can’t win it if you’re not in it. I didn’t think we would beat Marq. Didn’t think we’d beat Duke. Didn’t think we’d beat Baylor. Didn’t think we’d beat UF. Had a chance to win it all them Sin got sick.I'd rather watch us in a 16-team playoff than a meaningless exhibition bowl game.
Overall talent-wise, we should have not beat those teams. You are right. Once in....lightening can strike.Yep! Absolutely right! You never know what might happen. I think we can all agree on that.I'd rather watch us in a 16-team playoff than a meaningless exhibition bowl game.
When the playoff expands to 64 teams, I think we'll have a good chance of making it. Well, maybe 68 teams.If.
Just how long are we going to have to wait, as some of our posters have stated, they're running out of time to see the results.

I watch both now.I think we can all agree on that.
The more likely question is would you rather watch other teams in a 16-team playoff than the Gamecocks play in a meaningless bowl game? Because I think that's what's going to happen in about 97% of seasons.
Yes to that too. I want to watch as many meaningful CFB games as possible. With the bowls going to crap, this is the only saving it. You have to make them mean something.I think we can all agree on that.

See, now to me going for this would be stupid. https://sports.yahoo.com/wsus-kirk-...conference-for-extended-future-235801633.htmlI agree. The P2 shouldn't get a auto bid.
I thought the same thing at first but the more I thought about it, I have no problem with it. If they are ranked high enough to be one of the 4 highest ranked conference champs, I think they deserve it as much as the other 3 auto bid conference champs.I agree. The P2 shouldn't get a auto bid.
If they are ranked high enough, they should get in anyway, right? And if not, then no, they shouldn't get in there without playing a legitimate conference schedule. It's absurd.I thought the same thing at first but the more I thought about it, I have no problem with it. I will agree to disagree. If they are ranked high enough, they should get in anyway, right? And if not, then no, they shouldn't get in there without playing a legitimate conference schedule. It's absurd.
Even if this were Southern Cal and Washington we were talking about, tying a CFP bid to a two-team conference with makeshift schedules would be absurd.I will agree to disagree.
Agree 100%. They could just schedule each other, then 11 G5 teams and have a 50% chance of getting in.Even if this were Southern Cal and Washington we were talking about, tying a CFP bid to a two-team conference with makeshift schedules would be absurd.
