Wardlaw has some drawings over on the Junction. If those things are to scale the jumbotron is going to be massive.

I guess that makes sense considering how big that thing is, the fieldhouse should give it some more stability.

I'm just so used to looking at the other side of the field, but I'll adjust.

My question is what are they going to do with the other scoreboard? Just tear it down?

The old board will stay up. We'll continue to use it, somehow.

Actually, crazy enough.. it will be completely independent of the Seal building, and is now actually bigger than the original specs to fit around the building.. its going to be awesome!!!

Other scoreboard will remain as is, I would love to hear 1 of 2 things in the next couple of years.. either replace the board in the old one and update it with an lcd panel in it, or tear it down in place of horse-shoeing the north endzone!!! and put a new small one on the top or 2 corners!!!

I say tear that piece of **** eyesore down and bowl that endzone in....of course we'll need atleast 3 more winning seasons under our belt before the north endzone gets bowled in, but we should tear the old video board down anyways it looks awful. Also, did anyone hear if we're getting a new sound system with the new videoboard? because the current "soundsystem" we have is two speakers that sound like a 17ing boombox.

..............Xbox 360 and an HD satellite package, and set up a small shelter around that area with a window A./C unit. I'll make the whole thing portable so that I can just move it off the field on game days.

It starts at the top slowly more apprears. you see the screen between the top of the two uprights and I thought how is anybody going to see that. Then all the sudden I see that those are the uprights at the other end of the field when I see the uprights underneath it. Holy ****

Just think... In 10 years we'll be saying... "Somebody needs to donate that out dated thing to Jackson State!"

Texas Scoreboard = 7370 sq. ft.
DWS Scoreboard = 5217 sq. ft.

I'm still Proud, and very impressed!
But, with the new Speaker arrangement, we'll still have to listen to Hank belch out:
"THAT Was WESley..." after running a option keeper.

He is referring to the clip on the screen, State is beating TN 31-14

Ours is huge and will be close to the 2nd largest HD Board in the nation, but everyone in college is and will continue to be a distant second to Godzillatron, that thing is crazy huge.

because that thing is awesome...but my only question is how is it going to look from the campus side? I think this is what they have to do, because it would be a problem if we put it on the other side - which we will clearly bowl in at some point. I am just concerned that it will look kindof random from the Junction. I think they did the best they could aesthetically. I definitely like it better than the new Texas "godzillatron" which is just one huge screen, without the arched top and the side supports.

I would definitely rather have the thing than not have it, and I dont think I would have done it any other way...I guess it is just shockingly huge. That's what she said.

I'm thinking a scaled drawing that shows the new board and its size dwarfing, say, Godzilla or the Chrysler Building.

A new sound system will be located in a cabinet located above the video display. The state-of-the-art sound system will be designed and installed by Pro Sound, an audio company based in Miami, Fla.

I know that putting the new scoreboard over Seal Building gives it some stability, but do you think it was done with the thought of bowling in the stadium at the other end at a later date?

I'm hoping on the backside of the board facing the junction they can put a big Mstate logo or something to make it look attractive from that side too. That or put an Mstate logo with "The Junction" written below it

...can we move the M-Club over a few feet so it is lined up with the axis of the goalposts?

I just noticed the off-centeredness on the photo with the rendering, and now it will piss me off to no end.

It says this thing should be operating at somepoint this season...just wondering if anyone has any information on when cuz if we could bust this thing out on a nationally televised night game it would be special...

There are others that know more details than me, but from what little I've heard, Capturion's bulk of experience comes at schools like USM, Rice, and Tulane, while Daktronics has put boards in multiple MLB and NFL stadiums, while also doing Texas's Godzillatron, Auburn's formerly largest HD board in the SEC, and I believe Nebraska's boards as well.

Again, I know very little about HD technology or the two companies, but a lot of our fans pitched a fit when they found out that Capturion was likely going to be the company to construct our board and not Daktronics. Then, the project was re-bid and Daktronics won the re-bid.

My guess is that to the untrained eye, their boards don't look any different. However, the only thing I could see being an issue is that if you don't go with the industry leader, you could end up SOL when it comes to maintenance and repair contracts. I feel pretty confident Daktronics is going to remain in the HD video board business for the forseeable future based on the contracts they already have. Capturion, however, does not quite have the same amount of foothold.

I think SoxFan on the other site made the comparison to us choosing a non-industry leader (FieldTurf) for our artificial grass surface, rather than going with the industry leader (AstroPlay). FieldTurf is no longer in business, so we're stuck with fake grass that's fading and unattractive, when we could've had AstroPlay for just a little bit more, and they'd still be around to help take care of the field.

...giving a Mississippi-based company a contract that's larger than anything they've taken on before if they've shown the ability in the past to do good work for a good price in the same field.

Yea, as I said, as long as they don't go under it'll be fine. I don't know crap about HD quality, but I'll be willing to bet that any form of HD looks the same to most people, so I don't think the company or technology matters that much in that case. The only problem comes if, like I said, they get out of the business, or the company goes belly up like FieldTurf did to us, and like Sony did to both of us with the previous video boards.

this makes me wonder how reasonable it is for Byrne to expect us to have this thing up and running for any of our games this year.
