What could go wrong? SMH
An extremely good hir and a definite move up from his predecessor .He's a good dude. He pissed off both sides of political extremism during his tenure as governor, so he has his head on straight. Extremely competent and effective. Business savvy. Very good hire.
So would a dead raccoon. And probably stink less after three days in the summer sun.An extremely good hir and a definite move up from his predecessor .
I like my sports without politicians. Thanks. He's a good dude. He pissed off both sides of political extremism during his tenure as governor, so he has his head on straight. Extremely competent and effective. Business savvy. Very good hire.
Cool. When/if the NCAA's ship is righted under Baker's stewardship, you can sit all alone in your corner rocking back and forth jabbing your suit-wearing voodoo doll in the eye ball with a sewing needle mumbling "We hates it. Stupid fat politicians."I like my sports without politicians. Thanks.

Then you know nothing about sports or politics.I like my sports without politicians. Thanks.

He hates scones, like every other human on this planet. But he doesn't hate "us." You will like him. And if you don't, it's because you're a bad person. Probably the type that likes lattes over regular coffee.Does he hate us? That should be a prerequisite.

I find it more than a bit weird that a certain poster from MA is going far and beyond conventional endorsement in support of the “next NCAA guy”.Cool. When/if the NCAA's ship is righted under Baker's stewardship, you can sit all alone in your corner rocking back and forth jabbing your suit-wearing voodoo doll in the eye ball with a sewing needle mumbling "We hates it. That's not the only thing on you that's pegged.I find it more than a bit weird that a certain poster from MA is going far and beyond conventional endorsement in support of the “next NCAA guy”.
My “hmmmm” meter is pegged.
I like Charlie Baker, but I believe he will find the NCAA beyond repair. That's not the only thing on you that's pegged.
Other things you find more than a bit weird:
1. Opposable thumbs.
2. Looking in a mirror and realizing that's a reflection of self, and not a strange animal.
That very well could be the case ... I'm always perplexed by what the NCAA does (and doesn't do), so I have no idea the shape it's in, internally, or the power it can wield in today's athletics landscape.I like Charlie Baker, but I believe he will find the NCAA beyond repair.
Emmett has made it irrelevant, and I don’t see how it comes back
he is probably one of the best options available. their fundamental issue is what exactly their role is going to be going forward. the only way they are going to become the true governing body for college sports is for congress to give them an anti-trust exemption carte blanche, and the university Presidents (board) to act in a rational manner. otherwise, the NCAA may wind up just devolving to nothing, at which point why will the schools even provide funding to them. right now if they lost the MBB tournament $$$, they would probably be insolvent. So Baker will have to address the fundamental question of why they should exist, and if so how. this is not a job for an incompetent wimp (i.e. former PSU President from 2012).That very well could be the case ... I'm always perplexed by what the NCAA does (and doesn't do), so I have no idea the shape it's in, internally, or the power it can wield in today's athletics landscape.
And I'm not saying Charlie Baker's a superman, but he's probably one of the better options for a role like this, if there's any hope of salvaging it. He was a very good CEO, a very good governor and he's legitimately a good dude.
I have heard the same thing from family members in the state as well . And they are democrats ,point is he gets things done and is a great communicator .Have known Baker for >20 yrs, and think this is a great hire for the NCAA.
First got to know Charlie professionally when he was CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare. I had a team of consultants working there and he took HPHC from the brink of bankruptcy to becoming the #1 HMO in the country within a few years.i got to see from the inside his management style and leadership in fixing something that was very very broken.
Second, I served as an elected official for the last 4 years of the Patrick Administration and the first 4 years of the Baker Administration and it was night and day when he took over. Agencies got back to you, unneeded regulations were taken off the books, and he enacted a ton of reforms to enable local governments to run more efficiently.
Third, I've worked in his administration for the last few years and have enjoyed watching his incredible work ethic and ability to synthesize a ton of stuff. Dude is wicked smaht as we say in MA.
Oh, and as someone else mentioned in this thread, he's figured out as a Republican how to work with a legislature that is over 80% Dem, to the point of being regularly recognized as the most popular Governor in the US.
Wish he'd have run for a 3rd term for Gov, but am happy for him with this new opportunity. I suspect he'll do well.
As a long time (and still part time) resident of Western Mass, I'll say that many of our past Governors have treated anything west of 495 as a colony of Boston. We never got that from Baker, he was good for the entire state.I have heard the same thing from family members in the state as well . And they are democrats ,point is he gets things done and is a great communicator .
POTUS for example?I'd like to see him in a different, bigger job.
