Kyle Dake has announced that he will be joining the NLWC. That certainly will raise some interesting questions about 74kg.

I don't think anyone should be surprised. He has spent a lot of time in State College and is good friends with a lot of the guys. I thought he would come after the Olympics.

I am surprised. He could’ve left Cornell any time but he kept his loyalties to Cornell. He and Yianni seem(ed) to want to stick with Cornell to keep the program prominent. Plus, the guy on his heels trains at NLWC. I won’t be surprised if Nolf packs his bags.

Yeah. I have mixed feelings on this one also. Not a big Dake fan. Totally respect what he does on the mat. Not a fan of his personality off the mat. I prefer Nolf’s silent confidence. I hope Nolf sticks around and continues to get better. I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet. On the flip side, there are a lot of tears on HR and they are having a come to Jesus moment regarding NLWC/PSU over there so that makes it a bit better for me.

US Olympic steering guys to HV. Makes sense. The bond, the coaching, the life style is paramount and like it or not the guys and gals get the best environment in HV. The training is the best in the world. Soon the Russians and Iranians will be coming here to train if they aren’t already. Incredible what Cael has created. And it ain’t the water.

What is "HV?"

Dake is one sensational record and I bet he wants to win an Olympics-just about the only thing in wrestling he has not done-so moving to the best training place at NLWC makes sense. MUST be one heck of a wrestling room at PSU/NLWC practices. That Dake can wrestle with PSU wrestlers too sure helps PSU team. The Olympics only have 6 weight classes which makes it so tough to make the team but it sure will be super competitive. Lots of hall of famer-all time greats-in 1 room, which is amazing. Taylor, Dake, Snyder, Nolf, Zain, Gilman and others in 1 training room-must be sensational wrestling and competitiveness. I know all colleges have limited scholarships but WHY would any top high schooler not want to train and get better with these guys. Coach Cael has established best wrestling environment/training center in the world!

This is a tricky one - to use a Franklinism...."obviously" we PSU fans love Nolf and would prefer to see him remain at the NLWC and as the U.S. representative at Olympics (and maybe he will). I also think he is very close to finally winning against Dake (if anyone can it's Jason). Regardless, I'm sure Cael was/is involved in the decision to open the NLWC to Dake and permit this unique, albeit awkward situation.

Sure, but how often do top rivals train together? Plus, why would Dake want to help his top rival?
He won’t be if Nolf bounces up to go after Burroughs especially if he is retiring?? Cael knows what’s going on. And don’t forget about McIntosh going after Cox who might be bouncing up to take on Snyder. RBY, Starocci, Brooks, and Kerk are waiting in the wings. Come on Steveson... come to the HV. You could have the entire world team in the room.

Think a healthy kerk wins the hot spot if gable stays retired

I trust Cael. Dake to NLWC could be the best thing for both Dake and Nolf. Preparing to pass the baton when the time is right, that is if Jason can be patient while Dake extends his career while managing family etc.

Great balance between family and wrestling. Certainly the proof is in the results. It helps when you are surrounded by people doing the same thing

I am NOT in the inner circle but hard to believe Dake would move to NLWC unless Nolf was okay about it. Cael is all class.

Great point on 79kg.

I think what some see as cold, cut throat competition, others see as the challenging environment that they need to be their best.

Not sure who “some” is, but I don’t question Jason’s or Kyle’s desire to train with the best in order to be the best. Nolf’s training partners are ridiculous as it is. But I’m not aware of two guys vying for the same exact spot training together. Maybe there are examples. Or maybe one of them is going 79kg. That would make more sense to me.
