I have seen quite a few upright hits on fields goal attempts this year. Could we make that another scoring opportunity? You must call that you are going to try it on a field goal attempt and you would get 5 points by hitting the uprights or the cross bar. You would not get the 3 points if it goes through. This would give the offense an additional chance at the end of games

Why get 5 points for being less accurate or strong with the kick (although I get that you would call it for the posts). Crossbar doesn't make sense at all to me.

How about one more goal post in the middle, that is always 5 points? Or a set of very narrow ones?

How about a FG from the 0-10 yard line be worth 1 point, 11-20 be worth two points, 21-30 worth 3 points and anything from the 31 on be worth 4 points? An FG from the 31 yard line would be a 48 yarder, probably less than 50/50 for most college kickers. That would more strategery to the end of close games.

It is being way more accurate. it's like calling swish in HORSE. You have to declare We are going to hit the goal post and then do it. It will only count as points for hitting the goal post structure. The part that holds up the goal post wouldn't count.

Don't soccer guys do that as a game in practice of trying to hit the goal frame?

Eliminate field goals. They’ve become too routine. And you’d get a lot of 4th down conversion attempts inside the 40, which is one of the most exciting plays in football.

I get what you mean. I just gravitate towards the center ie consistency.

The first time you said it was ridiculous and it continues to be ridiculous.

How would more exciting plays and fewer boring plays be ridiculous? Seems to me bringing more excitement into the game would be a good thing. The NFL is trying to figure out how to not make the drive to get a FG so short and easy right now. It would also make college overtimes more fair by eliminating the advantage of the 2nd team with the ball know whether kicking a FG or going for it is the best option while the 1st team has to guess.

Along these same lines and way more possible to happen, I have often thought about what the end of a basketball game could look like if half court was a 5 point line.

Could you imagine? A team way behind just heaving them. And if they hit one all hell could break loose.
