I don’t think one game costs you a starting spot, but Cam hurt us today. He played poorly. With Hubbard, it’s been a lot more than one game. The more we can run Kugel, Melendez, Harris, Murphy and Cam together, I think the better we’ll get.

Cam gets a pretty big pass! Cam is a dawg!
Cam has definitely built up a lot of favorability with the fans, but I don’t think Hubbard has burned up most of his goodwill either. Over the last three years, they have been two our best three (the other being Tolu) players. Regarding OP‘s proposed starting lineup, putting your two best players on the bench is clownish, regardless if your name is Bozo or Bonzo.

Hubbard is shooting less than 30% overall in SEC games. It’s getting worse. And unless Jans and staff figure out some miraculous offensive play I am not sure it’s gonna get better. Josh can’t get an open look against anyone right now

Cameron Matthews, Claudell Harris Jr., Riley Kugel and KeShawn Murphy played the entire overtime period. Hubbard saw only one minute, while Shawn Jones Jr. had four.

No. You ride with Hubbard. He’s still our best ball handler.
Hubbard, and then Cam are our best ball handlers. Gotta have them playing major minutes. Whether they start or not doesn't matter to me, but probably matters to them. Cam is our Swiss Army Knife......the tool we have to have to do all the stuff nobody else does well.

Everybody on the team is gonna hurt you in some game or another. Cam has helped us so much in so many games, you can't let one mediocre or bad game determine his PT.

Wasn't he just on Mt Rushmore a week or so ago? ;)

My man Shawn. As frustrating as he can be at times, he gives you enough of this type of stuff to make him a favorite for me (pretty sure that was the block of a dunk I couldn't believe at the time). Been a fan since the first time he stepped on the floor.

I'm convinced that Cam was sick. Shots not dropping is one thing, but 8 TOs and 2 rebounds in a game that went to OT is just absurd for him. Plus, there were 2-3 times late in the game when he caught a pass just a few feet from the basket with room to work, and he looked like he had no desire whatsoever to take it inside. It was very weird

Agree. That’s why I said one game doesn’t cost you a starting spot. He may very well have been sick. He played like he was in slow motion.

People can say it’s a slump and Hubbard will get out of it but I’m not so sure. Sometimes guys get into a funk and it’s season long, takes a full offseason to reset. With his defense being so poor you can argue if he’s not hitting shots he’s a negative. The fact he’s our best ball handler is more of an indictment of the rest of the team. Bigs switch on him with confidence, they aren’t scared of him taking them off the dribble and going into the paint. If you’re playing point you’ve got to make the defense pay for that switch. It all boils down to Clary. Him not being available and having no other experienced PG on the roster is just killing us.

At some point you are what your stats say you are. Hubbard still does enough other things to contribute but his shot is just not working in this offense for whatever reason. Matthews is another matter. He has had a couple of bad outings now but overall has been more consistent.
