New Turnpike Album Friday

1-1/2 hour drive this evening. Will listen to the entire Turnpike album and report back.
Sounds more like old TurnPike. Makes me want to crack a beer on the back porch kind of feel.
See I didn't think so. The last 3-4 songs did for sure. But the most of the first part was kinda sleepy for Turnpike. I think the last album, A Cat In The Rain was like that as well. Less sit outside in the warm sun drinking beer and more sit by the fire pit on a cool night and have a strong whiskey type songs.
Nothing really blew my socks off, but there was some great writing as always. It just seems a little slower and not as big as the old stuff. I mean the first time I hard Gin, Smoke, Lies, Tornado Warning, and The Bird Hunters it was windows down and volume all the way up. Not as may real bangers on this one.
But I do think there are a few that will grow on me over time. Lucille, Mean Old Sun, East Side Love Song, and Brought Me have become some of my favorites now that I have heard them a bunch. The Rut may be top 3 with Gin, Smoke Lies and The Bird Hunters.
Best Songs on the new album in order to me are:
Nothing You Can Do (vintage Turnpike sound)
On The Red River (great narrative onion chopper)
Ruby Ann (old school TT big, fast paced song)
Leaving Town
Heaven Passing Through
I dunno. Its pretty well written and performed, but If you like that one, I submit to you The Rut. A an allegory about Elk Hunting and Evan's drinking problems.
Every time I hear it I mean to share it with @Pilgrimdawg ... The writing is from a man who has hunted elk and struggled with boos that's for dang sure.
I agree on the “seems a little slow” takes. If they would have put Ruby Ann or Leaving Town at the top of the album, it might have been a little more balanced.
Their last album really grew on me the more I listened to it. Maybe this one will as well. Love ‘Brought Me’ off that one:

Some folks are saying the album is put together like a funeral and then going through the emotions of losing a friend. That’s why it ‘picks up’ at the end.

Thanks Poo. This song is right up my alley. I was not familiar with it, but it is going to be a favorite now. Chris Ledoux had some good mountain songs too.
I haven’t given this one enough of a listen. I didn’t love that album and need to give it a deeper listen.
This is great. “On the Red River” resonates me a bit more for personal reasons, but they’re definitely similar songs.
There are just a lot of bands better than Turnpike now. They'll have a couple songs then a bunch of meh. Those couple songs will make my play list with a bunch from other bands but a a couple good ones are fine with me.
Ole 60 is in Meridian this year at the festival and they're damn solid! Will also be with Gavin Adcock in Brandon.

I'm no fan of the pop, that was a poke at the "new" music. Ole 60 is a KY crossover. Hell have you been to KY? They don't have basements or attics in houses. They just throw their **** out in the front yard.
