Covid threw this for a loop too. But when we were at the Restaurant of course I couldn't help my self to say these lines to the party:

Fa ra ra ra raaa... and "Well see, its smiling at Me!" Food was awesome as well.
“Bat” mitzvah? Is that not how they are trying to convince us the pandemic started?

I’ve already altered my Christmas dining plans. Instead of going to a relative’s home on Christmas Eve, and a friend’s house for Christmas dinner, we’re staying in. On Christmas Eve we’re going to make stuffed cabbage, a traditional family recipe just for our immediate family, and on Christmas Day, we’re doing Chinese or Japanese takeout. I haven’t decided if I want sushi or sesame tofu. Maybe I’ll get some of both. Frankly I’ll enjoy it more this way - the relative lives an hour away and we just saw them at our place on Thanksgiving, and the friend, who we also hosted, was making a ham which I don’t really care for anyway. Plus I don’t really get the whole Jesus Christ thing since I’m Jewish so this way I’ll just celebrate on my own terms without pretense and stay healthy, or at least as healthy as I can given my comorbidities.

Christmas looks like about 75 degrees here in Ft Worth. We have a bunch stopping over for dinner outside . When I built this place I had an outdoor kitchen built by our pool. Best decision I ever made as long as the weather cooperates . Everyone will be outside and hopefully safe with fresh air vs inside etc. Will smoke a large Turkey and also a nice Filet. Truly Blessed and thankful that everyone in my immediate family are healthy. A very close friend of mine died of COVID on Christmas Eve last year and We are hosting his family for dinner. They certainly have had a tough year.

We bailed on our NYE dining plans and all of our 'get-togethers' during the holidays. But, making the best of it - beef wellington for Christmas, raclette for Christmas Eve, pork/kielbasa/sauerkraut for New Year's Day. I'm also making a Japanese beef curry for downtime in between.

What brand of cheese do you use for the Raclette and what do you serve it with?

We typically are able to buy 'raclette' cheese at Harris Teeter and/or Wegman's here in Northern Virginia (they will slice it for you too which is a bonus). If not available, we get Emmi brand raclette cheese (pic below) which is fine (gruyere will work too if all else fails). The first time we had raclette was in Germany; visiting some friends and they served it with the cheese, boiled potatoes (usually new or small), French Maille brand cornichons, cocktail onions, steak (which we grill on the top of the raclette), chorizo/sopressata/ham, salad, baguette, and white wine. I typically place a slice of cheese on one of the mini spatulas, put a slice of cooked steak or chorizo next, some potato, and a couple onions and let that heat until the cheese is melted and hopefully crispy on the edges. Eat salad/baguette/cornichons on the side and wash it all down with the white wine (we typically go chablis or sancerre). Very simple and a crowd pleaser with guests who have never had it.
