Nikki McCray-Penson has died at age 51.

Former Gamecock WBB assistant coach Nikki McCray has died, there has been no specifics as of now but she has been battling breast cancer for a few years. Her career highlights include being a 2 time All American playing for the University of Tennessee, a 3 time WNBA All star, a 2 time Olympic Gold medalist (1996, 2000) and helping USC win it's first national championship. R.I.P.

Oh no..... If I recall, after being an assistant here, she went on to get her own HC gig, didn't she? She was doing pretty well professionally, I want to say. Hate to hear this....

Yes she got the head coaching job at Old Dominion and then at Mississippi State but stepped down due to her health. She recently returned to coaching as an assistant at Rutgers.
