Slashing Altima production at Canton specifically mentioned…

How has Nissan failed so hard and fast? Toyota just took their cornbread. Seems like 15-20 years those companies were equal. Maybe my memory is wrong, but the Xtera and Pathfinder were more prevalent then than Tacoma and 4Runner are now. And the maxima and Altima were everywhere.

I’ve always thought Nissans were pretty solid vehicles if you did regular maintenance akin to a Toyota. I’ve owned several and had little issues with them. The one time I had a major issue they stepped up a covered it under power train. What happened?

I had a Titan and have an Armada now and , honestly, they have been great vehicles.

I was in Texas last week traveling and I rented a new Pathfinder for the week. I really didn’t consider gas mileage but flipped through the dash while driving and it had averaged 16.5 mpg over its 18000 mile life. That’s unacceptable in today’s world, heck my Jeep with 4.11 gears , a lift, and large mud terrains averages 19.5.

Have you not seen the latest vehicles they’ve produced? They’re not exactly…sexy. The larger vehicles are just downright ugly if you ask me.

Dropping the sedans, keeping the trucks and SUV, adding Infiniti. Nissan cars and mini vans are no more

Had a 2012 Altima for 9 years. Not an exciting car, but a very good one. Hate to see what’s become of Nissan. Definitely not good for the Canton plant. At all.

Not to mention the popularity of the Honda brand. Bought my first one in 2009 and wouldn't drive anything else.

They are getting their clock cleaned overseas in China. Chinese are buying Chinese cars these days and they can't compete. Ford is also doing bad in china right as are most foreign car makers.

God forbid but If they close the plant eventually what do you put there? That area can’t go unfilled.
I'd offer to give it to Elon. Tell him he can have it for making his robotaxis so long as he hires people who are already local. The metro doesn't have many large private employers. Losing Nissan would hurt.

I used to own a 2008 Toyota 4Runner that was awesome. I test drove a same year Nissan pathfinder and it was like driving a tin can compared to the 4Runner.

They started putting those god awful cvt transmissions in the small SUVs and cars. They keep failing… and Nissan apparently didn’t care. Now they have a terrible reputation and no one is considering them.

lessons can be learned by GM and their insistence on staying with the failure of displacement on demand. But they solder on with it and more and more people are avoiding them.

What will the general Jackson population drive if the Altima is rolled back? Especially the special Lumumba Edition with a missing bumper and dented side panel, with peeling tint.

Could be that POS variable transmission they had for a while. I think they finally fixed it but I'll never own another one.

Interestingly, my Altima had a CVT & I never had a hint of a problem in 9 years. Guess I was lucky. I did run into someone who worked in the Canton plant a few years after I bought it. He said we really nailed it with that model & year.

It be a huge blow to the entire metro. I'm always surprised to see so many Nissan golf shirts in Flowood and Brandon. I know people who drive from Grenada every day to work there. There's probably people as far south as Brook and McComb who work there.

Was told the Morano was bad for the model we had. Also one of their cars but can't remember which. Was told by shop the replacement trans all seemed to be good. Know a Rogue owner with same tran issue. They just burned that bridge with me.

They did a big buyout about 6 or 7 years ago. It's not the end of the plant. Lots of fat can be cut and not effect much. Poor management decisions on production. At one point probly around 1200 vehicles a day rolling out. Does take long for them to start piling up

A dollar general, 4 check cashing businesses, a subway, and a Mexican restaurant.
That property is big enough for 2 Dollar Generals, one on each end of it as close as Dollar Gen throws them together. Throw in a Family Dollar in the middle and a convenience store w/ lots of fried food and the citizens of Canton will be set

I have a 2017 Nissan Titan that has been solid until the summer when the blower went out. The only problem with Nissan is that I bought a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, and they told me this blower was not covered. Bull. It has a little over 70,000 miles and it's only eight years old.

First vehicle Mrs Peeper and I bought was an Altima in 1989, great vehicle. Kept it till 1996 and traded it in for a Nissan Quest van when we started having little Peepers. Mrs got hit almost head on in it and it was totaled but she didn't have a scratch. My mom bought an Altima in early 90's on our recommendation and it was great. One of the little Peepers is now grown and has had 2 Altimas and mechanically they've been fine but man they are so cheap on the build out on the inside. I've occasionally driven both of them and I wouldn't have another one today.

On the other hand, I bought a 4Runner about that same time. Don't remember exactly the year. But I had to take them to arbitration to make them buy it back. I won. When we buy any make or model it's a coin flip. Luck of the draw.

Heat and AC blower? If so it’s and easy and cheap repair that you can do yourself. I switched out mine on an old Xterra. My only guide was YouTube.

I don’t know the situation there, but if I buy a warranty from the manufacturer and they give me static of using it, I’m done. You may think it doesn’t matter, but ibleedmaroondawg clearly sank their ship

Hopefully it is just accelerating retirement for people who are close and voluntary. This potential Nissan/Honda collaboration has some pretty serious implications for the Jackson metro, particularly Madison and Gluckstadt. What do you do with a building like that if it ever really closes? Start the rust belt of the south? Packard Electric over in Clinton, never found a use for that building, to my knowledge.

If I’m a worker at the Canton plant I’m asking Amazon how soon they’re hiring…
Hopefully MDA and local higher ed are working to provide workforce training, or other education, to help onboard whatever skills Amazon needs. I'm not sure that car assy line translates to data center.
