I thought that billionaires and millionaires couldn't be that stupid and greedy to screw this up, but boy was I wrong.
Was planning on at least 3 games in Fenway this summer. Was so hoping for a 162 game season. Sucks...all that money and can't get a deal done. What was the real reason? Anyone know?

Would they get the message if the stadia were empty upon their return or would they just shrug and count the tv money?

Just wondering since so few sports actually care about fans anymore.

Some of us won't even notice
A lot of people won’t notice. I couldn’t tell you if I watched five straight innings of any game last year.

What pisses me off is that this screws over a lot of little guys. We’re coming out of a pandemic and people are trying to get ahead, trying to make a living. In the best of times they wake up worrying about the mortgage or the bad clutch on their car; never an carefree day. Now these guys are screwing them over? How are they going to support their families? It’s wrong.

I have tickets to take the family to a game at Yankee Stadium in May. Hope they get things done so the season can get back on track.

Feel sorry for all the people who work the games and need the $$$$.

And all the folks down in Florida and Arizona who make their nut during spring training ... all the ancillary businesses in each home town that need the foot traffic surrounding home games (restaurants, bars, etc.) ... they're screwing over all those guys and gals and they couldn't care less.

The worst part is, this is being driven by all the shitburger towns like Pittsburgh, who don't bother to try to put a competitive product on the field, so they're actually gaining profit by not having early season games, because they don't have to pay the players, and they don't get any revenue from games, regardless, because no one goes.

I don't believe I've watched a whole baseball game since my two boys gave it up in high school. It's a kids game that is best played by 11 and 12 year olds, and watched by their parents and grandparents. But as the MLB premidona players have gone on strike, raised their salaries to absurd levels, and seem to be always at odds with the mostly billionaire owners, it has become so easy to ignore. That's the bright spot!!

Hope they cancel the season and then the league.

Players just voted down the owners "best and final offer." Good news for TheGlov...Pirates won't be mathematically eliminated by May 1! Nobody will be playing...Sucks.
Best and final offer until the next best and final offer and then the one they eventually agree on which will likely be better than the best and final offer.

As opposed to those benevolent saintly owners and players in the other pro sports.

If they could actually agree on a sustainable structure like the other pro sports did I wouldn't mind the work stoppage. Instead they will slap a band aid on it and then repeat this again and again. The other leagues argue every few years, but the differences are usually small enough that nothing big happens. Baseball can't seem to fix their structural flaws though, and worse don't even seem interested in trying to.

There is no off-season for football, golf, soccer, racing, ad a few other sports. Baseball has just been pushed asided. There is very little year round discussion of MLB. I am old avid fan who quit on the Pirates years ago.

Two stupid comments from you equals no more comments from you.
Except this was explicitly mentioned by folks involved in/with sources within the negotiations. The small-market (or acting like small-market) clubs that don't draw fans actually want early season games cancelled because they cost them money - they don't draw enough at the gate to make up for the salaries they have to pay out.

So, apparently, reality is stupid to you. That's a you issue, not a me issue.

Passan and Rogers both have said that the Pirates were by far the most referred to team when it comes to a horrible franchise that are a big reason why the luxury tax needs significant improvement or abolished altogether because they will NEVER spend. Nutting literally pockets the money whereas legitimate franchises in similar situations like the Cards, Brewers and A's spend the money in shrewd ways intended to equal the playing field. I feel for Pirates fans because I do know many very loyal ones but that franchise is basically run by a Pirate. They need to be forced to sell or contracted. Them having a place at the table taints the negotion table.

Maybe his issue was you calling Pittsburgh a shitburger town.

Owners greed know no bounds. They are owners for as long as they like, then can cash in their billions. Players have limited longevity.

Oh well. If it's any consolation, Miami, Oakland, Tampa, Toronto and Baltimore were bigger shitburger towns last year (as judged solely by attendance).

I think I heard yesterday that this is the 9th work stoppage in the last 50 years. Gee, I wonder why baseball popularity is dipping.

The people of Pittsburgh should do to Nutting what the Italians did to Mussolini.
