School Stadium Cap. Enrollment Avg. Home Attendance Record
Texas 94.1 49.7 85.1 10-3
Texas A&M 82.6 46.6 82.2 7-6
Texas Tech 52.9 29.0 51.9 9-4

My point is that Texas is one of the largest schools in the nation, they are in one of the largest states in the nation. They are one of the most highly endowed public universities in the nation. They had a very solid season last year. And they were about 9k on average short of filling their stadium, and their average attendance was less than LSU, TN, Bama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and TN. All of those schools, with the exception of FL are smaller schools. And all of them are in smaller states. What gives?

that's my only excuse. Who wants to be that far away? If I was Texas, I would completely tear down that endzone and start over.

Like you said, Texas is a big state. I'm sure the fans are from all over the state, maybe they don't want to make the road trip after watching Tweeter, Mox, and Billy Bob tear it up on Friday night.

They used to have a track around the football field. Some years ago, they removed it and lowered the field about 10' to give a better view from the stands. Those endzone seats still suck ***, though.

They suck. I have been to more Texas games than MSU games, as sad as it is. The fans at the game blow and always have.

Despite what they say over here, Big 12 football is just not as big of a deal. Week in, week out, the home games in Austin blow. Few people are really is going to drive 3 1/2 hours from Dallas to see Texas play Iowa State, North Texas, and UTEP. Face it, both Texas and OU play their biggest game of the year away from home.

All that being said, getting an average of 85,000 people to travel from all over a state the size of Texas to continually watch boring Big 12 games and nonconference games is still impressive.

And yeah, you could probably scoot the field back by about 15 or 20 yards, but then all the people who have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years would go apeshit after seeing their seats go from the 50 to the 35. That's one thing you don't do at Texas is piss off the people that cut checks every year.

I would just hate to sit there. Not only are you in the endzone, you are so far away from the field.

almost fills up their stadium every game, and that with a 7-6 record. The actual average attendance is off a little bit from Texas, however. Nebraska is in the same boring leauge, and their attendance is infamous -- as is Oklahoma's. Things trail off pretty big in that conference after that, though. </p>

it begins and ends with the dallas cowboys. high school football is more popular than college football in this state. granted uta's stadium is about 100k now which may be a reason they have trouble filling it 100%. people don't go to schools here based solely on how big of a fan they are of their school. i'm willing to bet a small minority of the 50k students in austin are really big time fans as we know it in the sec. and austin being a hippy town doesn't help either. its easy to explain tech's attendance....they are in the middle of nowhere. i think a and m has the most legitimate fanbase. there is a heck of a lot more talk nationally about the texas college football scene than talk about it here. i live in the metroplex and there is not daily coverage on uta, tam, tt, tcu or any other d1 school for that matter like there is on every tv station everyday in the south in the fall and leading up to the college football season. but on the other hand if a second string long snapper for the cowboys tears his acl every local news outlet will make sure everyone and their mother knows about it.

..but I give them credit for making it as fan-friendly as they could. Just a poor design by having the track there, it makes it impossible to have a decent seat and makes adding on to it a no-win situation. The only way Texas gets a good stadium is if they bulldoze that thing to the ground.

Sorry, but when your school has an enrollment of 50K, is in a metropolitan area of 1.5 million, has a proud history in football, and just won a national championship three years ago, failing to fill up your stadium is the opposite of impressive.

stadium by any means. Yeah, the north endzone is back a ways, but they are expanding the north endzone seats (vertically) for club seats and new suites.

The track has been gone for damn near 10 years and they brought in the seats closer to the playing field. The problem with the stadium is the boners that fill it.

No way in hell is high school football more popular in Texas than college or pro. Austin being a hippie town has nothing to do with. Football is just as big in Austin as it is anywhere in the state.

I would not doubt there are that many that got left unsold by scalpers and fans last season because they really did not have a big game on campus. The team was down a bit and their two biggest games were away Oklahoma (Dallas) and aTm (College Station). But don't think there aren't a ton of folks in town for home games...I think most spend their time in the pubs and bars downtown before, during and after the game. Attendance should be up this season with new coordinators and bigger games on campus - Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Baylor and aTM.

I spent about 10 years on DFW. U Texas and A&M were rarely talked about until Texas-OU week and only sometimes for Texas-TAMU week. The State of Texas just isn't big enough for the Dallas Cowboys and college football.
