at a Michigan game for a "key" play (second hand story from someone who attended a game), tiger bait chant from inbred mutant piglet children at lsu game to elderly folks, tp'ing a tree, war damn eagle chant.....
teams actually want people to hate that stuff. Tenn: I am sure they want everyone to hate Rocky Top.
Me? I can't stand anything Notre Dame does. Calling the swine is particuarly anoying. And does FLA still do that alligator thing with their arms that is particuarly retarded?
in the stands. it is retarded when you see 8 guys in Rick's Rowdies t-shirts jumping up and down in unison while trying to get everyone else to join in. once they realize...for the 10th time that day...that no one is going to join they one-by-one stop jumping up and down. this isn't only our fans copying. i see it all the time during other games.
but the hair on my neck stands up when LSU's band kicks it with Hold that Tiger. I guess what I hate about it is that I like it so much. Damn it. That's some damn strong game day juice right there.
And I really like me some golden girls. I don't hate them at all. skankilicious.
I just mute any athletic event involving LSU, because I feel the same way about them that I do Notre Dame. I can't stand to hear any of the incoherent dribble that comes out of their mouth. Unfortunately, I still have to endure their tragic devotion to the french language, whether it is cajun or not, with their eaux inserted for every O on their signs.
Seeing fans get behind their team, and doing all the fun things that makes College football fun. The only reason LSU's stuff makes everybody sick is because we get stomped by them every game. For example, I noticed that nobody complains about "ROOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL TAHD!!!!" because right now they're our little bitches. About the only gameday tradition I dislike is the cheerleaders holding up "MAKE SOME NOISE!" signs when State has the football. I wish Cheerleaders would get back to their original purpose, which was to get the fan base fired up. Today's cheerleaders are nothing more than wannabe-gymnasts who don't know the difference between a Field Goal and a Touchdown (both Men AND Women). It WOULD be nice if they could coordinate their cheers to what's going on the field, and NOT some forgettable "cheer".
Ok, maybe not, as I don't know when UF started doing that. However, the State band did play the theme to Jaws back in the 80s and a number of fans, mostly students, would do the chomp thing in rhythm with the music.
Being in hattiesburg, Southern Miss has this very annoying cheerleader that wears cargo shorts and a t-shirt and he has a microphone and he just yells crap like "Come on crowd!", "Get up", and spells southern miss... that guy gets old even for southern fans.
rule #1 --if your going to chant out in unison that many times in a game, try to keep a level enthusiasm about it. I know it sounds like crap when the team sucks, but it really sounds bad when 10K people do it in the first quarter and 10 losers from a bad fraternity keep it going in the fourth (when your down big)
I would also say that the DP rock probably didnt sit well with many back in the day, even though I liked it, it was still showboating big time.</p>
The only Mississippi tradition that hasn't been banned or outlawed due to the 14th Amendment, the 1965 Civil Rights Act, or Political Correctness (Rebel flag, Mississippi Southern "Southerners", the Belhaven "Clansmen").
Really, anything at the University of Texas... I think it's really sad that UT changes part of "Texas Fight" during the OU game to "OU sucks"... but whatever And as an born and bred Sooner, even I get annoyed with Boomer Sooner at times... The Pride plays it WAYYYY too much...
we had some Bama student friends come to Oxford for the game. My buddy's girlfriend was talking about how everyone copies their traditions and songs. I asked what she meant and she said we stole "Rammer Jammer" from them. I had the pleasure of educating the young dame on the fact that Rammer Jammer came about at some point in the 80's (I think it was 80's) and their band actually called it "the Ole Miss cheer" because it was a rip-off of ours.
As far as I'm concerned, anyone playing that song is a copycat unless their name happens to be Gary Glitter, child molestor. As for the chant, UM students were doing that silly **** a generation or two before the song was even written.
Since I'm all about moral victories and all, I relish any moment I have the opportunity to let a Bama fan know they didn't invent everything.
