You put the cans in the icechest with the top of the can barely grabable. Take your fingertips and spin it for about two minutes. Not icey cold, but drinkable.

When Starkville only sold hot beer, I used to put the beer in the freezer at walmart then walk around doing the rest of my shopping and pick it back up on the way out!

If you like beer, please check out the site below, which is a grass-roots organization trying to change some beer laws in the state. Mississippi is one of three states (along with AL and WV) that has severe limits on alcohol content of beer. As a result, about all we can get here is macro-brewed crap. Over 2/3 of the beer brewed in the world is illegal in Mississippi. Meanwhile, we can walk in any liquor store in the state and buy a fifth of pure grain alcohol. Go figure.

and (duh) ice. Be generous with the ice. I bury the beer so that only the top of the long neck is visible from all the ice. Then, salt the ice. Your beer will be drinkable a much shorter amount of time.

In cooler:

1. Put in beer right side up
2. fill near the top with ice
3. pour in pound of salt
4. pour in water (about 1/3 to 1/2 of cooler)

Beer will be cold (i think they said less than 40 degrees) in less than 5 minutes. Problem is it can freeze the beer too.

I used to keep a box of rock salt with me in my younger days. Never knew when I needed to cool a hot beer fast. That plus the ice doesn't melt as fast in your cooler. As you said though, you have to know the right amount to use or they'll freeze.

Nothing like sitting on the lake during a hot summer day, pull an ice cold beer from the cooler and it has a little salt around the rim.</p>
