Do any of you guys or girls have any experience with this league? My daughter is about to be 9 and has decided she wants to play some organized softball this year. We’ve thrown the ball around and hit the ball off of the tee in the back yard, but not anything organized. We did a softball camp this summer and she really enjoyed it. Several of her friends at JA are playing this year so she wants to as well.

I read through the rules, equipment, etc on their website, I'm just curious if anyone has any firsthand experience with it.

If it's like baseball - most kids with any semblance of talent have unfortunately moved on to tournament teams. I'd play rec this year and if she really enjoys it - consider moving on to a tournament team if you think she would want to play in high school. Say goodbye to your life once you join that tournament team though. Biggest decision maker are the parents of the kids on the team because you are going to be around them a lot. If they seem like you wouldn't enjoy being around them, don't join that team.

We played NJYB until my child was in kindergarten and we didn't have a baseball season because of Covid. So a group of dads started a tournament team in the fall and haven't looked back. I wish it wasn't this way but it is what it is. We have been on good teams with good parents so our experience has been different than others.

Ours was in their 7-8 year old softball league last year and it was nice. Really laid back.

At 9 they move up to where the girls pitch to each other I believe. I'm sure it's more serious.

That’s one thing I was a little confused by. For where her birthday is (Feb of 16), the registration sheet said “2nd-3rd grade coach pitch”, but the rules sheet said “3rd-4th grade softball” where the players pitch. My girl is in 3rd grade, so I’ll probably email them and get some clarification on that. It doesn’t really matter either way, though. We will figure it out if she really wants to play.

Also, I didn’t see anything about it on the site, there are no “hard lines” for districts, correct? We live in Madison County, but playing in the Jackson league shouldn’t be an issue?

Yeah, they don’t care where you live to my knowledge. I know folks from Madison and Rankin playing at NJ.

There should be no hard lines as far as residency is concerned. They will be happy to take your money regardless where you live.

You may already know this but their website is njybb.com.
