after the horrendous six-year stretch that preceded last fall's bowl appearance, a second straight bowl trip would signify another step forward for the Mississippi State program.

Wait. I thought a second straight bowl is not necessarily good enough for the mighty bulldog football program.

High Point: Three good SEC wins. The first was a 19-14 road victory over heavily-favored Auburn on Sept. 15. Croom also topped his alma mater, Alabama, 17-12, in mid-November. It was the second straight win for Croom and Mississippi State over the Tide. Mississippi State won the Egg Bowl, beating Mississippi by 17-14 in the season finale.

How did they forget about the convincing victory over Kentucky? An away game, no less. I, for one, thought that was the highest point of the season (performance-wise).
