Not shocking. Probably mean Ewers staying put

Will be interesting to watch. Is Ewers willing to potentially sit the bench for another year watching Stroud? Is McCord going to accept he'll never be a starter? It seems that Miller was just the beginning, we'll have 2 more of these OSU QBs in the portal by May, and PSU should do it can to land one of them.

But I was under the impression that Drew Allar was going to be the savior.

Is that not the case anymore?

Any of the QBs that end up in the portal have less experience than Veilleux and you would risk Allar potentially looking elsewhere this time next year via the portal. I know everyone is looking for someone to come in and step in and start, but unless it is someone with more experience than what we already have, they will be given an opportunity to compete but not handed the job.

With Lincoln Riley bailing for USC, Caleb Williams could also decide to portal somewhere. PSU was in the mix for him. Would we take a shot there? Allar redshirt for 2022 and backup 2023 to become the starter in 2024 and 25...

Do you really think Caleb, who would be the most prized transfer, maybe ever, and easily could follow his old coach would come to a 7-5 penn state team that can't score 30 points? Is there any indication he would be developed into a top tier NFL draft pick at his position here? Penn State is where QB's go to die. It's been that way for decades, especially under Franklin. Nothing easy, poor offensive lines, they make you a battering ram on QB draws, the longer you play the position the worse you are for it, and you'll be injured too. If I ever had a kid that was a top flight QB, PSU would be just about the last place I'd send them. Before everyone gets in a huff, I don't feel that way about all positions, just QB.

Other programs don’t stop bringing in as much QB talent as possible because they’re scared of offending someone. Just bring in as many as we can, and start whoever is best. It’s not that complex. For all we know, Allar and/or Pribula will be busts, there’s no reason to put everything on them working out.

Not saying you're wrong.

I don't know what Caleb thinks. I know he had Penn State in his final few schools out of high school.

What does #1 QB prospect Drew Allar think?

I think Allar is attached to Yurcich, so as long as he stays, Allar will come to PSU. But, top QBs like Allar aren't going to a) wait around forever for their turn or b) stick with a program if or after it becomes obvious it's not a good fit. Have to hope we make some massive strides in the next couple of years; other schools are recruiting QBs to the portal every weekend they play on TV. Next year is gonna be tough for PSU; likely breaking in another OL coach and re-stocking the shelves at key positions.

I am amazed that Drew is sticking with his commitment(and all indications suggest he is). I don't think Drew Allar means anything in the world of a truly prized Transfer QB though, I think that thinking is asymmetrical. Clearly Drew fell in love with the school, feels jilted by OSU, and believes in Franklin and MY. That is an entirely different animal than Caleb Williams, who would undoubtedly have the best programs, best offensive coaches, most storied programs throwing themselves at him to come to their school. He would command $millions in NIL opportunities, he is a proven commodity, he could single handedly make a program a Playoff contender immediately. That dude is not coming to penn state under any circumstances and Drew Allar's commitment has no bearing on that.

McCord to Notre Dame? Ewers stays because of his NIL. Williams probably transfers but 0 chance he comes to PSU. Why would he risk his health to play behind this oline?

I agree, but guys that go into the portal are unhappy with their playing time so they are looking to increase their playing time, not just be told they might play. Until the season is over and Clifford say whether he is coming back or not, it will be hard for PSU to get a portal QB.

How about McCord to Rutgers? I believe his Dad is on staff there. He would definitely start.

We need to focus on portal O-linemen, a top priority. No returning starter's job should be safe on that ridiculous unit.

If Clifford leaves we need to go with CV, Allar and Pribula and let the best of that trio emerge as a starter. Forget about Caleb Williams, no way he would even sniff PSU.
