SIAP ... did not see it on the board anywhere. Looks like BOB might be back in the AFC South next year:

I heard it on Pittsburgh sports radio last week...also Harbaugh to the Raiders. Thought it was all BS but maybe not. I still say Jimmy is looking forthe Bears job or trying to get UM to pony up more coin....

This is kinda odd considering they're just coming off the disastrous Urban Meyer experiment. I'd put OB in sort of the same mold as Meyer in the way they manage a program or team.

First order of business, trade Trevor Lawrence. 🤣

To the Steelers.

Does FLO recognize Trevor Lawrence's happiness and effectiveness determines the lifespan of the next Jags coach?

Raiders would be a great landing spot. They have an accomplished pro QB and are right there. Chi has a work in progress at QB and not nearly the horses Vegas has. Both have roadblocks but if Rodgers pulls up stakes, Chi can make some noise sooner than later.

I can see many college coaches taking nfl jobs in the next few years. at least the nfl has a free agency structure in place whereas college football has turned into an unregulated disaster as far as player transfers and NIL deals. These college coaches have to go on the road recruiting and spend so much of their lives away from their families , only to have these same recruits they worked to sign turn around and play the portal drama . At some point i’d say F this , I’ll just go to the nfl .

That's why you see college coaches getting 10 years for holy crap money. The writing is on the wall. Emert could have structured this years ago, but chose to protect the gift. 🖕

As long OB sticks to the coaching part he will be fine He saved us
I still root against O’Brien wherever he goes. He didn’t save me. I thought he was a carpetbagging jackass who survived at PSU because of Joe’s players (led by Mauti), then jumped at the first NFL opportunity. And left the cupboard bare and gave idiot Jones some choice quotes on his way out of town.

I would like every word in your post if possible. Just liking the post in its entirety seems not to be enough.

I don't root against OB because everyone knew OB wasn't here longterm. The rest I agree with wholeheartedly.

He accepted the job with assurances that there would be no NCAA sanctions. No bowl games, severe loss of scholarships, and players able to leave without sitting happened after he took the job. He got hosed, and easily could have walked immediately after the sanctions via breach of contract. He stayed. Was a great offensive coach. Worked miracles with McGloin and Hackenberg. Stayed two years longer than most.

OB was always clear that the NFL was the pinnacle of his profession. Why anyone would have thought he was going to be a long term coach in college escapes me.
Bingo. He said it from day 1 on the job. He was crystal clear. Anybody that didn’t get that in the message was kidding themselves. He was willing to take a job that was toxic at the time. On top of that, he took the job while being told there wouldn’t be any sanctions. When the sanctions hit, I remember the talk was he could have left because of a loophole in his contract..he didn’t. He lost the top offensive player, Redd, in the free agency part of the sanctions along with others. He turned McGloin into the top passer in the B1G after a year of being a turnover machine with the previous coaching staff. He could have left after the first year for the NFL..he didn’t. He came back and did his job. I’m tired of hearing he left the cupboard bare. That is a misguided view. How was he supposed to fill a team with the 15/year, 65 total scholarship limits from the sanctions? He inherited a team with 85 scholarship players and and basically had to cut 20 guys while still “filling the cupboard.” How was that supposed to work? It’s probably the criticism that he continues to get that made it pretty easy to leave after the second year. Plus, this same crowd was constantly grumbling that he wasn’t honoring Joe publicly on a regualr basis. It didn’t matter who the coach was, they were in a no win situation. O’Brien made the most of the situation and did just fine by me.

My guess is he will be, but I don’t think they can interview him until after the regular season is over?

FLO's biggest mistake was not fighting against the sanctions when he was asked, instead simply saying to keep them on TV. A seasoned head coach would have said no and had his agent explain to the administration the situation and agree to nothing. If someone like Meyer or Richt had been hired it is unlikely there would have been anything worse than a fine. It's not FLO's only mistake, but it was by far his worst.

Ok. Gotcha. He should have said no to the sanctions and everything would have been ok? The NCAA would have said no problem, you win? Are you serious? Here’s another idea, if Joe would have retired after ‘05 or at the latest ‘08, then there never would have been sanctions because he would have been a former coach connected to Sandusky, not a current coach. Instead, he selfishly stayed to chase the all time wins record and nearly burned the entire program to the ground on the way out the door.

O’Brien has already demonstrated that he can coach at any level, college or NFL. His biggest Achilles is his ego.

If a savvy NFL owner can marry FLO to a sympatico GM, they might be on the verge of developing the next successor NFL franchise to the Patriots

Byron’s resume is really unimpressive, that’s why. Let’s not try to fool people

Tom Brady has simply told Byron to step aside while Brady runs his offense.

FLO was asked for his advice. He gave it. It was terribly naive. He was in over his head and did not seek counsel. Can you seriously imagine someone like Saban saying, 'just keep us on tv?' Not even PSU's cabin hiding consultant thought the ncaa had jurisdiction. I don't hate FLO for being outclassed in the matter, but I can recognize his mistakes during it.

Source that he made his NFL intentions clear on Day 1 at Penn State? And that he was told there would be no sanctions? Romanticizing OB’s time at PSU and overstating his contributions to the program are a tried and true board tradition. Nice to see it continue…

When O'Brien signed his five-year contract in January 2012, an amendment was quickly added that called for the contract to be extended by the number of years PSU was impacted by any possible NCAA sanctions relating to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. The extension, tied to the sanctions, turned out to be four years.

There isn’t a lot of experience in the following coaching resume’. Certainly not enough to warrant HC consideration

As a coach:
Compare and contrast that to Brandon StAley of the Chargers. HC after 4 yrs in the NFL. Prior to that he was coaching D3
While Byron was playing the game while being the 7 th overall pick. Plus being OC for a Super Bowl winning team, and being one of Jax own former players. There’s a lot to sell

I think the trend right now in the NFL is to go young. They seem to be moving away from the Jim Caldwells of the world (even though he is getting looks).

Tomlin was a DB coach and had one year as a DC with the Vikings when hired.
