1. It’s felt like MSU has been in a sort of malaise for the last couple of years. There has been a dearth of good news. Nothing has seemed to break our way. The losing combined with the relative success of our rival has made it a miserable couple of years.

It’s so nice to see our job spoken of with the respect we all believe it deserves. “Top 5 job” has been thrown around by knowledgeable people with no MSU connection. We needed positive press, and we’re getting it.

We've boosted an enormously successful sitting head coach from a wealthy P4 school.

I didn't think we could do it. I’ll eat my crow there and like it.

2. Besides the winning, which is obviously priority one for a baseball coach, we got a guy who will run a respectable program. He’s not a Vitello who’s going to be bumping umpires and playing guys who flip off the opposing outfielders as they round the bases.

He’s not an O’Sullivan. He’s not a Mingione. Long and short, he feels like an MSU baseball guy. We will hopefully get the winning without having to put up with the bush league shenanigans of the aforementioned.

3. Looking at the UVA message board, and man those guys think really highly of themselves. Charlottesville is cool. But that’s it. It’s Charlottesville. It’s not Carmel-by-the-Sea. It’s not Bozeman. It’s not even Austin.

And Starkville is just fine. We’re even on a bunch of these “Best of” lists recently. Sure, we don’t have a boutique where you can walk in and buy a $19,000 hand bag or a $700 pair of blue jeans. But something tells me that’s not really what O’Connor is into, and the attitude displayed on the message board linked below could very well be something he is sick of. Seriously, get a load of these guys.

And maybe he’s tired of living in a state that charges you extra for every bag you use at the grocery store.

#2 all day. I have been impressed with him for a long time. Obviously, the resume is great, but he's also the kind of guy you want to lead your program.

I don’t care if the players have choreographed dugout dances in matching tutus if he wins.

But with the kind of commitment we clearly had to make in order to get him, “winning” doesn’t mean hosting occasionally and winning a road super regional a couple of times a decade. It means fans making Omaha reservations and being pissed if they have to cancel them.
