Did anyone else notice this? From a Rod Walker story about Jeremy Bibbs...

Melton plans to serve as a recruiting coordinator of sorts and take Bibbs, who is 6 feet 2 and now weighs 230 pounds, to schools around the state.

He said his first stops will be Jackson State and Mississippi State, even though those schools might not be viable options.

Two of my favorite topics in one - MSU Football and Frank Melton. The universe just might explode.

Here's the story.

I remember watching some of those NWR-MC games and he looked like a good back. I don't think he'll ever end up in Starkville, though. Sounds like back to Co-Lin then J-State.

Based on the story in the paper about Bibbs having straightened his life out and wanting a second chance, if you were a college fb coach, would you give him that chance?

I say buy. I would have a long talk with him about his past, give him a detailed set of rules and expectations, warn him that he has one strike and he is out, and then I would bring him in.

but I would give him a really short leash, and I would let him know that up front.

I'm not worried because A. it's Croom and more importantly B. we have Dixon and Ducre. While we have had some off the field incidents with Croom, at least we know that he is going to make his players do some things like go to class and come to practice. He also isn't afraid to kick people off the team for incidents either- save for Derek Pegues and Titus Brown.

that Frank Melton is acting as this guy's mentor than his selling the Peruvian marching dust. So, like Bibbs, I'm selling. But, it would be interesting to have a hyped up running back that sold drugs BEFORE he got on campus, instead of after.

We showed M. Brown the door and that may very well cost us a win or two or three. We can't very well take in Bibbs. Especially when the last straw for him was a campus gun charge.

Melton either pulls over a school bus along Highway 25, needing a hug, or demolishes a crackhouse while in Starkville.

What the heck, I'm buying.

Starkville's homeless population that they are going to have a sleeping buddy pop in for a photo op.

Melton:

Used a city fire hydrant (unmetered) to fill up a Jackson YMCA swimming pool (before he was elected Mayor)
Adopted the Police Command Center vehicle as his personal limo, parking it at his mansion
Declared Jackson under a "state of emergency" in an attempt to reduce crime
Went on midnight raids downtown toting a shotgun
Had his "entourage" pull over a schoolbus full of kids on the shoulder of I-220 because he "needed a hug"
Demolished an alleged crackhouse with sledgehammers while the renter was inside on his recliner.
Packed heat on a commercial air flight after 9/11 as a "law enforcement officer"
Packed heat on Mississippi College's campus
Got reprimanded by the Mississippi Attorney General
Goes on "sleepovers" with Jackson residents, the homeless, etc.
Wanted to use a line of credit from storm debris removal to pay Jackson youth as summer employees in private businesses

I know I'm missing some good ones, but that's all that came to my mind right now. Something tells me that Jeremy Bibbs would do well to stay away from this character.

told his (mostly white) opposition to "get out of town" if they did not like the way he handled things (in a Ray Nagin-esque manner)?

or after just winning re-election (he, no doubt, only ran to stroke his ego) he submits a letter of resignation, but when he realized that he would not be appointed as the Superintendent of Memphis City Schools, he took it back?

Get this, Willie's so bad, he even has the biggest bleeding-heart liberals in town hating him.

in the two situations. M. Brown is/was being punished for his actions at MSU. As a result, he was kicked off the football team and kicked out of school.

Bibbs has already been punished and served out the sentence for his actions. He is now at a point where he wants to rejoin civil and law-abiding society. As I said, I think he should be given that opportunity. By the way, I'm in no way saying that M. Brown doesn't deserve another chance or doesn't desire to be a functioning & civil member of society. However, part of the consequences of his actions are being removed from MSU just as Bibbs had consequences (jail) to deal with. I hope Brown gets another chance at another school.

Do you see the distinction I'm claiming here? You may disagree, but that is the major difference I see in the two situations.

I don't want anything to do with someone that is willing to join forces with Frank Melton.

........you really do.

I guess my position is tainted by knowing Brown. It's a cliche, but Mike is a good guy. One of the most personable football players you'd ever want to meet. The Budweiser car guy might disagree, but Mike is hardly a threat to the community. Still, he effed up big time and now must pay the price.

Yes, Bibbs has already paid the price for his transgressions. As a guy that believes in second chances, I think he deserves one. However, since we booted Brown, I don't think Bibb's second chance should be here.

Knowing a guy personally is always going to make dealing with something like this more difficult.
Still, he effed up big time and now must pay the price.
Yep, that is true. As much as I hate for a guy like Brown that has shown no record of past errors in judgement, he still broke the law. In order for society to function properly, there must be consequences. Personally, I believe that our justice system has gotten too soft and lenient overall (not in this particular case per se, but when viewed collectively).
As a guy that believes in second chances, I think he deserves one. However, since we booted Brown, I don't think Bibb's second chance should be here.
And that is fine. You have a right to believe as you do especially in light of Bibbs past transgressions and Brown's being so similar.

was when he raided the adult video store. He arrested the cashier who went down fighting all the way into the police car, and then you had people running out of there and getting the heck out of dodge, while trying to not get filmed.

"If there is any hiccup with his eligibility, I think I am going to let him try out for the New Orleans Saints or the Houston Texans," Melton said. "If the college thing doesn't work out, I'll try to get him in the NFL.
What a nice guy... He's going to "let" him try out for the Saints or the Texans... He's a regular Don King...
