Just surrendered go-ahead FG….only 45 seconds left. About to drop a home loss to a really mediocre Michigan team.

Hurts them a little bit for CFP because they can’t get the bye with a loss. But the bigger question is what does it do to Penn State if they get another loss in the B1G title game? They’d be 11-2 with no big wins. Right in that same boat with ACC CG loser and all the 3-loss SEC teams. IU and their #10 CFP ranking is thanking their lucky stars that they lose that tiebreaker…..

This is why I don’t like the 12 team. I like it overall but in 4 or probably 8, that would be Michigan knocking OSU out of the playoffs.

Absolute brawl after the game.

Michigan players got pepper sprayed by Ohio LEOs.

Somebody get Herbstreit’s take on this travesty!

Why didn't Michigan coaches get them off the field? Just ridiculous to let your players linger and try to plant a flag twice when the first attempt started a fight.

I turned it away before that happened. What were the Michigan players doing to deserve pepper spray? I saw the UM players dumping Gatorade on the head coach, and missing once and hitting a policeman, but I went back to the Tenn/Vandy game after that (thinking it was time for the Iron Bowl).

There is no “right” size for the CFP that you can set that makes sense regardless of conference scheduling practices.

If you’ve only got a 4, 6, or 8 team field, maybe these 8 or 9 game conference schedules could still make some sense. You’d have Oregon, SECCG winner (unless it’s A&M), then pick 2 between SECCG loser / ACC winner / Penn State / ND if you had the 4 team CFP this year.

But with a 12 team CFP, its ridiculous to have all these leagues that are too chickenshít to lose CFP contenders to make real conference schedules. There should be a minimum of 10 conference games in all the P4 leagues in this format, and divisions in all leagues to set the conference championship. The current format totally sucks the way that its penalizing teams for making their conference title because they get the “reward” of being on the winning side of a convoluted tiebreaker that has no real meaning. There aren’t nearly enough games being played between conference teams for this format to make sense. There’s not nearly enough fat-cutting happening at the margins.

16 team CFP? There should be nothing less than 11 conference games and a P4 non-conference team for everyone. The G5 can starve.

I would think that any players involved in the brawl would be suspended for their playoff game?****

You arguably have an easier draw to the semifinals as the 5-seed. You draw the weakest 2 conference champions & likely no top 10 teams vs the bye teams all drawing a top 8 team in the quarterfinals.
How is it a given that you draw the weakest 2 conference champions? There’s no guarantee that the 12-seed is going to be a conference champion. Boise State is currently #11 in the rankings, and has a shot to pad their resume against #22 UNLV heading into the CFP. And the lowest ranked bye team might very well be 11-2 UGA, if the other teams are 12-1 Boise State, 12-1 Miami, and 13-0 Oregon. 5 seed could very well play Alabama in round 1 and UGA in round 2.

And that’s not even to mention that Ohio State wasn’t just in contention for the bye, they were in contention for the 1-seed. Pretty sure you want the top seed over any other spot. Get your 2nd round game against a team that is no better the 8-seed, and no first round game. That sounds a hell of a lot better than the 5-seed to me.
