Ohio State fired their coach today. The first name many are saying is Lamont Paris. He grew up in Ohio and has Midwest ties. Won’t be the last time his name comes up. Going to be hard to keep him, but hoping he just wants to be here.

One thing is for sure: Ray Tanner has a lot on the line to not lose Lamont Paris. Look at Tanner's other hires:

Chad Holbrook: a flop......................................................................... Fired
Will Muschamp: an unmitigated disaster..................................... Fired
Mark Kingston: .581% total record and .470% SEC record.... Mediocre
Shane Beamer: .526% total record and .417% SEC record..... Jury still out on him

Losing Paris could be the exclamation point on Tanner's AD career.

We should definitely wait another year for LP to prove himself before giving him a raise. 😎

That's right. Look at the recruits he's locked up to keep this thing rolling.
It’s highly possible his recruits could just follow him and he basically put this team together in 1 year. I’m sure that’s why his name is going to come up a lot.

My gut is he stays. Friendship with Dawn might play a part in it as well. But I also know there is a very real chance he could go. As much as we consider Ohio State a football school, they have a lot of success in basketball too. They’ve been to the Final Four multiple times the past 15-20 years. They’re a National Brand. Paris will at least listen and consider it. It would take substantial $$ to keep him.

I believe that the fact that we recently played in the Final Four is proof that we can win big in basketball here. That plays in our favor too. Also, looking at Lamont's recent history, he is not a "job hopper". That too is in our favor. Time will tell, though.

CWS titles circa 1966 as well, I think.

I think the Dawn factor is big.

I don't see OSU hiring him. This is only his real first season of success. He was good at Chatanooga but not a world beater. He had a hard time beating ETSU. He doesn't have the resume yet for the big jump to a OSU...

I see OSU going after someone like Bama's coach!!!

We've been blown out by Auburn by 40 pts. I don't think we have to worry about coach leaving for OSU.

I believe ADs will look at the bigger body of work. We were blown out by Alabama too. He’s still done one hell of a job and everyone knows it. Time will tell. We need a strong finish to the season, which would make him more attractive. If we slide, he’ll be less attractive, but then it sucks for us because we struggled down the stretch. Just hope we keep winning.

I absolutely agree, I just don't think his body of work would warrant a jump to OSU. One good season with us and a few good seasons with Chattanooga is not going to warrant that kind of jump to one of the best programs of all time. Seems like I saw where they were in the top 20 programs of all-time.

People don’t usually leave the state of South Carolina to go to Ohio.

Just to be clear - just because a sports writer says it, it doesn’t mean it’s true. In fact, it usually isn’t. They’re not paid to be accurate, they’re paid to drum up interest in sports, which keeps them in business talking about sports.
