Apparently we aren’t good in the new Hump so good news is we may win the SECT and hit a hot streak on the road in the NCAA.

The problem isn't too many players getting minutes. Those same players got minutes in the first half when the team couldn't miss, moved the ball well, and grew the lead.

The team struggles to be effective and maintain a large lead. The Stansbury Stall is still alive and well in Starkville.

problems. We play WAY too many people. Miss Tolu horribly. I think our tourney chances are done if we blow this one.

The second half they put it on cruise control and it nearly bit them in the arse. They stopped going inside and started jacking up threes. The shot selection in the first half was excellent and the interior passing was exceptional. They just got really lazy on both ends of the floor second half.

Our NET is currently 39, one spot behind Kentucky. We were 31 but Northwestern losing to Chicago State really hurt us. NW’s NET dropped from 48 to 84 with that loss.

Yeah, and I’ll just mention again that it’s not the inconsistency in scoring that’s concerning me. We knew this would be a challenge coming into the year, and losing Tolu only made that worse.

It’s the sudden inability to get stops over long stretches that’s worrying me, and last night may have been the worst defensive effort by a Jans team that I’ve seen in the last two years. When you know that you have to ability to shut down top 25 caliber games on a nightly basis, it is ridiculous to have to watch teams like Murray State and Southern score at will

There's a few programs with some bad loses this year. That will help out if we see them on the bubble.

Agreed on lazy and an on cruise control. It was almost a repeat of Southern.

Southern- the team went 3 minutes without a point from 10:03 to 7:03 in the 2nd half. Then they went the entire last 4min 30seconds of the game without scoring a single point. Thats almost 1/4 of the half without a point. Southern went from down 11 to up 1 in the last 4:30.

Murray State- the team went 4min 40second without a point from 14:53 to 10:12 in the 2nd half, which resulted in Murray State going from down 18 to down 3. They then went 2min 45sec without scoring a point between 9:03 and 6:19.
Whats really frustrating to see is that Murray State had already committed 6 fouls in the second half with 14min remaining. MSU was in the bonus for 14 minutes and only got to the line 6 times(with the last minute containing 2 of those times). MSU went over 4min between that 6th and 7th foul, then another 3min before getting to the line again. If MSU is struggling to get their offense going, then create contact and get to the line. Slow the game down for a bit, get the other team in some foul trouble to force substitutions, and see if that changes the dynamic so the offense can get back to running smoothly.
But nope- they both struggled to create offense AND ignored getting to the line.

What killed them in the second half as well was being lazy on defensive rotations. Their two guards were driving the lane at will.

What I see is a team that has to play with great effort to be successful. They can be very good when the effort is there. When the effort drops the performance drops significantly. When they think they have a game won they are letting the effort drop. It's hard to get that effort back once it drops.

A long time ago, I think it was back in the Stansbury days, I began to refuse to get upset about the basketball team's play during December. Some programs have a real history of playing meaningful games during this month but we never have. Of course, it may have made a big difference in RPI at the end of the season but as a whole, the team or fans didn't seem to show up for these games... So why get upset?

I'll check back with y'all in January. Thanks.

This shouldn't have been a bubble team. This should have been a team fighting for a 5/6 seed. But we're working on being a bubble team. Southern was a major step in that direction.
With Tolu fully healthy for the full season, they shouldn't be a bubble team.

Without him though?...if he had to sit out the season and MSU still made the tournament, that'd be impressive.

There are some sports where 1 star can make the entire season. Basketball is the top of that in college.
